I use it in my X5 all the time. I need the mirror up for backing out of my driveway, but want it down for parking near curbs so I don’t hurt them 19s.
I will need to look at this. I would die laughing at it if this is it. I find it strange this would suddenly stop working when the car is in for tires.
I love this mirror tilt. Prevents me from scuffing my rims
My guess is who ever worked on your car probably had to back it out of the service bay and wanted to be able to see where they were going not the ground then forgot to switch it back.
x2^^
I had that issue at Towne, but it was on my way home so I always stopped by to say hello personally. I found out that the Service Desk guys didn’t listen to their VMs, they were so busy. I once left 5 VMs in 5 days, only to realize when I came in that all five were never even listened to and I had to repeat myself directly to the service guy.
Thankfully, they lived up to it and apologized by giving me free oil changes every time I was there, even after my maintenance window, as well as some other things that they could have charged me for but didn’t. I also got a free set of all-weather floor mats as a “sorry about the delay”, when I had to come back three times for the same issue. I call that excellent service, even if they’re swamped and can’t get back to me right away.
Even with the lack of callbacks, I’d buy another BMW from them. They worked on my car and fixed anything I needed, no questions asked.
EDIT: Don’t feel bad about the side mirror thing. In a snow storm once, my gas cap wouldn’t open when I first bought my car. I was at a gas station right down the street from Towne, so I drove to the dealer only for them to tell me that when the doors are locked, so is the gas cap. I felt like an idiot, since I had never before locked my doors when filling up. It’s those weird little “OH! DUH” moments…

My 2008 E90 needed it to be in one position. I could disable it by putting it to the other side.
Same with the e46 one side leaves it up. The other tilts while in reverse depending on the switch placement
Bryan, text me or pm me if you don’t have my number
The switch does need to be on the drivers mirror in order for the tilt to work, if it’s on the passenger mirror the feature is turned off. This applies to every BMW.

Care to elaborate on “everyone else”?
It’s a long story but the one time I didn’t have Don work on it stuff got messed up wrong parts were ordered… just turned into a big ordeal. I guess I ment the service department specifically.
Goff works there, and is a stand up dude. Careful mincing words peeps.
I’m sorry you had a bad experience but one or two people making a mistake doesn’t mean the entire service department is incompetent. As an employee of said service department I take offense to your comment.
Without going into detail, I will say that I think the service department could be/should be run a lot better. I however do not have the ability to make the changes necessary to improve the place.
The techs there are amazing. I had a low tire I brought in and they got a tech to come right out and is great. Any tech I have dealt with there has been fantastic and not only come out and give you a general answer but are always willing to give you info, find out about how your car is running, etc. I spoke to a guy who checked my tire for about 15 minutes about some noises and how the service worked with when I needed to bring it in and all that. I just find the service coordinators useless so going to have a chat with the service manager tomorrow and explain my frustration since when they wanted me to buy 2 back tires for $750 they were very responsive but when it comes to repairs and free maintenance, it is a pain.
I just hate having to use a tech to schedule my service. I appreciate it but I don’t see the point of their service department if the techs are the ones that coordinate how to get a car in. I will be calling tomorrow to talk to the manager. I have my oil level light on now too and want to get the stuff looked at before I store my car for the winter.
Also checked the switch and works now. Glad that fixed it. Thanks for the tips
Sorry I didn’t know. Ill pick my words more carefully next time. I have talked to several people over there that would also agree with you that improvements could be made.
Bryan get ahold of goff, he knows his shit man.
Towne is probably the best bmw dealer I’ve dealt with personally. Service department is infinitely better then the Acura dealership and just as good as Lexus when it comes to service, at least in my experience.
good to know there are BMW techs on here for when i want to buy one out of the US
Had the x5m in for a blown tire and bent rim. I just got a phone call from a friend, looks like I’m getting a new bumper and tail light as well. They dont know what happened yet but it looks like a hit and run. I know there are a few employees on here, any info would be awesome.
Give Goff a pm. He usually responds quickly.
We haven’t been able to find out who caused the damage. Usually when something like this happens the person who caused it lets us know and we handle it. I believe another employee noticed the damage walking through the lot, nobody saw the incident. If we know anything more, I’m sure Don will update you.
This is just about the worst thread I have read in a long time. I’m not taking sides for BMW service, and I know this is an old thread, but for a bunch of people to bash Towne BMW because someone does not know how to operate their own car? Jump right to calling the dealer instead of reading your owners manual, or using google. The curb view assist was switched off so the car could safely be backed out of a parking spot, or off the lift. You should know enough about your own car to figure out how to switch it back. This blows my mind. This should have been a 3 post thread. Would you also make a thread if your radio was on when you dropped the car off, and off when you picked it up? /rant
I appreciate the response. Don feels pretty bad about it and I understand accidents happen, just a bit bummed that the person who did it either didnt realize what happened or is too nervous to say something.
This wasn’t intended to bash BMW just didn’t want to make a new thread.
