I was curious if anyone here uses dzus fasteners or any similar fasteners for holding on bodywork (ie front bumper). How do they work? Thanks
they work great!
Im familar with them the have a female side of a half circle and a male side of a half circle and the intermesh with each other…there good, Im not sure what your attempting to do but there also a temporary fastner type thing called clecos also.
They kick ass if you have (or are going to make) something sturdy for them to mount to. If not, use hood pins.
well my issue so far has been my car getting a bit warm at the events, especially when multiple runs are made in sequence. It makes a huge difference without the bumper on so I was thinking of using a fastener such as this for easy removal. The nuts and studs on the bumper now are a giant pain in the ass. And, since somebody will say it, zipties suck for this application lol.
i ran em on my 87 formula wit a fibreglass front end doin street use .no problems with them just mount the base ans such to suttin sturdy like clark said
Mafdark just did some… I’m sure he can point you in the right direction
ya. check out his build thread, it’s on the last 3 pages or so, pics of them, too.
EDIT: beat me to it :lol
yah they seem to be your best option in that case and zip-ties do suck… couldnt picture doing anything else and dzuz fastners are legit… (clean looking and work great for what your doing)
there not called cleco any mo they reffer to them as thread setters now. i use them ALL the time. but have to get the right one’s there’s 3 different types.
use them on the jeeps all the time to repair the soft tops. which shrink and have a shit load of tension on them and they stay put.
+1
for them…
will be picking up some for my e36 bumper cover as soon as i get off my ass…
awesome thanks for the info guys, mafdark were they fairly easy to install?
yes, but it depends on the location. as long as you have access to the backside your fine. The way I stuffed mine in the radiator support was a bitch.
ur more than welcome to come and look at them and check them out if u want. that is how the entire race car is held togther.
all the panels r off right now cause the new motor is going in. so u can see every thing.
:bowdownwhat race car oh great one?
You’ve also used hood pins to secure a bumper successfully with hood pins on the Mk2 as I recall.
So that could always be the other option - OP.
I don’t think you know what a cleco is then…
yeah, they can be used in a similar fashion where visibility/ and or function is necessary.
the whole idea that i love for the dzus/ quarter turn/ coffin lock, etc is that they can be easily hidden/ and somewhat “tamper proof.”
i will hide mine behind the rubstrips of my bumper which snap off in seconds.
Pete- Unless you ditch the reinforcement C-bar beind the bumper, you’ll need some serious clamping force to hold it on. I dont think 2-4 dzus fasteners on the front will do it. Just my $.02.
