Are shipping costs refundable?

the jist:

i sold a set of a-pillars to some dude in Cali back in March, ie. 8 months ago.

he said they were scratched and proved it with pics.

i am not one to argue so i said cool, i can ship you another set but he would have to pay shipping on them.

he never got back to me until this week, and he is threatening me with whatever and being all rude and $hit…

there have been guys that werent happy for one reason or another with transactions with me on-line but all were refunded or otherwise resolved. this guy is being a prick and threatening to “TELL EVERYONE”… OMG heaven forfend…

i have full pm records to prove my reasonability, but it comes to this.

i am just going to give him his money back, but not for shipping… no one refunds shipping if it has been paid, not e-merchants not your local store…

at least i dont know of any.

what say you?

If you shipped the correct product, then you shouldn’t refund shipping.

If it was damaged badly and you didnt tell him its a different story, but I
am sure its just normal wear and tear small scratches.

he knew the product was used, i had pictures of it.

item was shipped as stated.

Shipping is not part of the cost of the item. It is a separate cost incured by the buyer to recive the item he/she has bought. If they did not wish to pay shipping they could have just as easily came up to canada and picked them up themselfs yes? Unless you make them use shipping and tell them they HAVE to ship them then its their choice to pay it.

I’ve never had shipping refunded, cause it is a cost above and beyond the actual product and it did not go to you.

Unelss you stated “I’ll refund your money, including shipping” then no you do not have to. As a seller you did your best to fix a problem with the item you first sent him by sending a free item to the buyer. He just has to pay the shipping.

Now I do know the most seller’s when they have to send a new item usually don’t charge shipping twice. This is a little different as both of you seemed to work out an arrangement. So the buyer should stick to it and stop whining.

Easy 8)

i bought a dvd on ebay, the guy sent me the wrong dvd, he paid the shipping of the dvd back to him and the shipping of the correct one to me, so ya i guess it depends, cause this situation is a bit different since it really wasnt your fault, i dint know its pretty tough

yeah if i sent teh wrong $hit then maybe, but i sent exactly what i told him i would and he wasnt happy with it…

what really gets me is that this guy is using all these empty threats and crap…

he told me i was new when i have been around longer than he has…lol… i dont want to get into specfics about which board or anything.

bottom line: and it holds up in court 9/10 times in these situations…

Caviate Emptor - Buyer Beware.

Dude doesn’t like it, he can go fornicate with himself.

If you’re looking to offer the benifiet of the doubt, or if you are big into e-bussiness and you fear him “telling everyone” will not help…

i would refund the price of the original PART only (he pays for shipping to him and back to you), and i woulnd’t refund a penny untill it’s back in your hand.
