At least 1 cop gets it........

“I’ve spent eight years in traffic services, and I was a crash reconstructionist
for five years before that,” Michigan State Police Lieutenant Gary Megge told the News.

“So I’ve seen my share of fatal wrecks, and I can tell you:
Deaths are not caused by speeding. They’re caused by drinking, drugs and inattentiveness.
The old adage that speed kills just isn’t realistic.
The safest speed is the speed that is correct for that roadway at a given time.
A lot of speed limits are set artificially low.”

The Michigan State Police advocates setting limits according to the 85th percentile rule.

This commonly accepted engineering principle is used to determine
the legal limit by measuring how fast the vast majority of traffic,
85 percent, travel in safety.

“It just doesn’t seem right to me that we would enforce a law
where 90-98 percent of the people are in violation of it,
” Lieutenant Megge told the News.

this man should run for office. he has my vote already. +1

Good for him.

+2

hands down, a realist…

Wow! We need more people like him! He’s the only one with sense and actually willing to voice his opinion. I’m sure almost all the other cops would agree, seeing as how they all abuse their power and throw on the cherries just to get ahead of traffic. I bet they wouldn’t mind the speed limits increased…

i vote him for premier of ontario

cool, i can speed now

<3 people who see the world through reality, not some far fetched dream.

Too many fucking hippies I tell ya.

Jowo, fail.

It’s about money.

I’m aware, I just blame the worlds problems on hippies and emo boys who wear makeup - its just easier that way.

Hippies and emo’s are to the masses as this cop is to all the other cops…IMHO

Kinda looks like the cop from Terminator 1

wow this is stupid. i am so against this.

just think. if limits were raised to suite this 90-95% of people. then that just means that they will keep on speeding over the newly posted higher limit. This will result on the same amount of people speeding at higher rates. Most people do 20 over and will keep doing it no matter the limit.

The only way this could work is to increase the fine and patrol more often the higher speed. i know personally i do 120km/h when its posted 100km/h. so if they were to post 120, then for sure my self and other will still be doing 20 over make its a speed of 140km/h

All raising the limits will do is keep that 5-10% of people that will obay the limit free of charges. but then they shouldn’t of had a problem before anyways.

On top of all this. think of those divers who can ever do the limits now on the highway, what will they be like.

The speed limit in most maritime provinces is 110, their highways aren’t even half as sophisticated as ours but yet if you drive there, for the most part everyone that drives usually keeps to the right, doesn’t pull douchebag moves and not many people speed.

If we could have that behavior here, with our sophisticated highways - 120km/h would be very realistic.

It’s like the people who say OMG YOU ARE GOING 100km/hr. If they are unsafe and scared of going that fast they shouldn’t be on the road to begin with.

We need driver education like in Germany. Sure it cost money, but it was worth it. Not everyone can get a driver license, but when they do they are pro, quality drivers.

The German autobahn is a perfect example of ‘speeding’ and nothing.

I was reading some debates on the local CASC forums and even down in the states the NASA forums, etc… it’s funny but like most of them said, how are they unsafe going say 140km/hr in a straight line when they are going 200km/hr+ in corners.

This is all just a business. I don’t break no laws, but I think the laws are retarded.

The only thing I think the government should do is IMPROVE roads to HIGH STANDARDS, not the piece of shit roads we have… and improve drivers cause quite frankly most suck ass.

The laws are rubbish. I don’t care if anyone doesn’t like my views or will ram on me for saying what I said but this is what it is in my view. I’ve driven on three different continents, and we’re living in a ever growing police state.

I hated driving in some parts of Holland, as there was cameras everywhere, how can you enjoy driving wtf… you get billed for going 10km/hr over even. Kiss my ass. People pulling over to the road if they sped so they slow down lol. Of course this was not the whole of Holland.

Did you know in some cities in Germany they completely removed signs and stop lights? Experiment to see how it affects driver quality.

All we’re doing here is amassing massive amounts of money for the government and insurance companies.

People who are afraid to drive 100km/hr+ shouldn’t be allowed to drive at all. It’s just… argh… I can’t relate it, as it’s a completely different world and mentality. One would have had to live in Europe or some other parts of the world to really understand + being so media brainwashed… doesn’t help…’

The thing that kills is drunks and people who can’t bloody drive, have no skills, abilities, reaction, strategy, or anything else for that matter in driving… I guess people in Germany should be executed for speeding if ontario laws were to be enacted in germany lol.

This has more to do with making money and controlling people’s movement, putting fear into people than anything else.

Don’t be ignorant Ahmed. Think about all the other drivers. (Old drivers, New drivers, etc) Not just yourself. You have to think about ALL drivers and not drivers that “think they can drive”.

Accidents at higher speeds will be a lot more fatal and you have to take the average reaction time into account too. Ever noticed how sometimes everything is going smooth on the highway and then you have to quickly come to a dead stop?

You’re looking at this only thinking about yourself and no one else.

And whoever said raising the speed limit will still cause people to still go 15 - 20kmh above the NEW limit is 100% on the ball.

Honestly on the 401 most people drive 140.

It should be like this. Left most lane should be for people going fast, middle lane for people moving out of the way, right most lane for exits. This is generally the consensus in Europe.

Instead what do we have? A JAM of people going 80 in left, 120 in right, 140 in middle, passing each other left right. Whatever. Then everyone is expected to go 100 in all lanes technically. It’s rubbish. No road ethics either. No strategizing or planning when on road. Nothing.

What we’re doing here is CREATING problems, and then offering pseudo-solutions.

I said we should educate drivers to drive. In germany you pay something close to like 3000$ to get a license, go through intense driving courses, training, etc… 3 months+ if i recall.

What do we have here? G1, G2, G license tests, and most people fail them lmao. Plus they are very artificial and not REAL PRACTICAL scenarios… and it all depends on how good the grannie or grandma that did the test for you is.Complete BS.

The law is not a law to regulate driving at all, it’s just a law to put fear into people and make a profit.

I find truck drivers on the highway more dangerous and problematic (damaging roads, causing jams and slow downs) more of a danger as well. Suggesting seperate roads for them would result in what? Money required.

Repairing roads and building QUALITY DURABLE roads requires money also…

All these solutions require money, thus they are ignored. Instead ‘solutions’ which actually MAKE moeny are being put into place.

Another problem is that the rules and laws currently making money WONT get removed even if we introduce more rigorous driver training … thus resulting in what? NOT a new rule or law or system or training method but ANOTHER way to make money.

You just contradicted yourself.

“I said we should educate drivers to drive. In germany you pay something close to like 3000$ to get a license, go through intense driving courses, training, etc… 3 months+ if i recall.”

Wouldn’t money be made on this? Assuming if they make it government run.

Another problem is that the rules and laws currently making money WONT get removed even if we introduce more rigorous driver training … thus resulting in what? NOT a new rule or law or system or training method but ANOTHER way to make money.

That’s why its all bullshit laws and not for betterment of society if it were introduced here but rather making MORE money.

In germany it costs to be a driver BUT look at their freeway system (autobahn). The US-side autobahn was and always will be a cheap copy of the autobahn (read up the history on it).
