York traffic Sgt. Dave Mitchell said the Manchesters were turning left on to eastbound Stouffville Rd. from Yonge St., when two northbound cars, a Honda Civic and a Honda Del Sol, approached the intersection travelling along side each other at almost twice the 80 km/h speed limit.
Because the couple who got killed were turning left they are automatically
at fault by insurance determination rules.
Furthermore, it is most likely their fault. If you cannot tell how fast another
vehicle is approaching and make proper judgement on whether or not you
can safely make a turn, you shouldn’t be allowed to drive a car. I am sick
of all the NO RIGHT ON RED, and LEFT TURN SIGNAL intersections in my
neighbourhood, and its all because of idiots who have poor judgement and
can’t drive if their life depended on it.
Sometimes if you are stupid you die. Such is life.
Read the artical beside that one on page 2. Guy in lancer drifts into pole, with passenges. His passengers are in critcal condition, driver has a broken arm. Drive was impaired, and wanted to drift his lancer.
cmon those hondas were street racing, I could see it all the way from yonge and finch
seriously doubt they’ll find any credible witnesses… if you have two cars blocking both lanes for X kilometers there can’t very well be cars on those lanes can there, so unless they were hooligans and ducking around cars there should be no one
also remember kids, the sun is a tabloid, it’s for feeble minded conservatives, it’s all about feelings and outcry, forget justice and fairness, and don’t expect any complicated topics to confuse their angry loyal slack-jaws
start to worry if/when it hits the post/star… when they start spewing harper propoganda, the morons will have taken our country
ive almost had the exact same thing happen to me although i wasnt street racing or driving more than 15 over the speed limit, and people who cannot judge cars make lefts directly infront of you on a green light when there is THOUSANDS of feet of emptyness behind you but they just have to pull out right infront of you so you have to slam on your brakes or change lanes in the intersection (ticket material) to avoid them.
I bet this is exacally what happend in this situation. however they may or may not have been street racing.
Even if they were driving 300km/h racing trying to set a civic speed record, the other people shouldn’t have turned.
If they ran a red thats another story, but if the light was green then the people who got killed committed suicide.
when you do the driving test, make a note that the instructor tells you to do womething “when it is safe to do so” … think that just about sums up any traffic accident… someone usually does something abrupt when it is clearly not safe to
the media exaggerates. I dont know what to believr, but all in all this is pretty sad news.
this is true
if only other people accepted this shit
i completely agree with overb0ost.
regardless of whether the driver of the couple’s car made a poor judgement call or not, the fact that they were racing had a direct impact on the outcome of the accident. had the accident occurred with another car that wasn’t going as fast as the honda (let’s say around the speed limit for the sake of argument), chances are the accident wouldn’t have been as severe and that little girl’s parents may still have been alive today.
there’s no excuse for being irresponsible and breaking the law.

yes but it could have happened with any car that was speeding, didn’t have to be street racing related at all…
when was the last time you heard the media ramble on about normal accidents, unless someone was killed it isn’t news…
my cousin works in brampton, one day he stopped by the airport, there was a plane on the runway on fire… burning away… guess what, no one said anything on the news, why not? by the sound of it, it must have been something dc9 or tristar sized, it wasn’t a 20 passenger leerjet or anything
you have to treat the news with a grain of salt, even when it looks like they are “investigating” what they really mean is they asked whoever was in charge for a statement or maybe some witnesses… hardly qualifies as “evidence” of their hypotheses, but it’s reported as fact, and the dumber-than-the-average-tomato joe public eats it up without question
The problem is that when two idiots race, especially evenly matched cars, they end up going a LOT faster than any regular ‘speeder’ would and make poor decisions in order to not back off and thus ‘lose’.
I.e. they run very stale yellows, not slow down when a car is infront of them turning figuring it will move before they smash it, etc etc etc… (the latter case is probably what actually happened here, not that the guy suddenly turned infront of him but that the guy was already turning and neither of these two retards bothered to slow down when they saw it)
I don’t disagree with much that the media says except when they target cars rather than the drivers behind them.
man it mite not even be like that
for all u know the guy in the hyundai was a cocky faggot who thought he could take his sweet as time as the hondas were heading for him, and guess waht, he got SOL cause he misjudged the distance, OR, the hondas werent going 150 btu 200 which is even harder to judge i dont know but they blame the hondas cause theyr the ones that were going straight ? WTF? and everytime you pull out and get hit they always say its your fault ? its like this cause they think that young people are idiots, the hondas going straight had the rigt of way, the guy shoulda fuckign waited, and who knowa how fast they were giogn, speed guns ? no ? hyndais are tin cans. i could crush it with my snowblower… peace, i dont know whos fault this is, but people shuoldnt drive reckless
Its everyones fault. The guy pulled out at the wrong time, idiot. The Hondas were both slow so they couldn’t pass each other and probably drove like dumb ginos. If one of them actually had a fast car the race would have been over in 2nd gear.
Regardless of whether or not the Hyundai made a foolish move, the speed the honda was travelling was what caused the death.
If the guy was doing 50 the family would be alive.
When you’re on the road you have to be aware that not everyone else is a ‘performance driver’, what you might think is safe could have put everyone else at great risk because they don’t know how to react to it.
To blame someone else because at night they couldn’t judge a car is tripling the speed limit is stupid. Just like you can’t blame the guy who goes as soon as the light goes green and then gets smoked by an idiot running a red light in his SUV.
It’s situations that would never happen if people even LOSELY followed the rules of the road.
amen!
