A Depew teen employed at an auto dealership was arrested Saturday after he allegedly put his own license plates on a new BMW M3 and drove it around for a day, State Police report.
Troopers said Patrick Keller, 18, returned the car to Towne BMW, 8215 Main St., where he worked. Charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, he will appear in Clarence Town Court on Dec. 11.
not really, I worked at a dealership when I was 18, the keys for cars like that usually werent even in the machine, the gm would usually keep them on him
lol i recently heard a story about a kid who worked at the cadillac dealership i used to work at. he took a caddie out overnight and went partying with his friends. when it was time to go back to work the next morning, he parked the car on a side street and walked to work.
gm of the dealership went for a ride to have a cig, spotted the car and brought it back. they found a bottle of vodka and a bunch of garbage inside it. they knew it was him and just fired him right on the spot. obviously the kid wasnt very bright, i know this because i used to work with him.
i use to work at northtown lexus. someone took a trade in car for a joy ride i think with another person that worked there. if im not mistaken, only the driver got fired too.
Most dealers have a plate release system. It is like a vending machine for plates. They tie your employee id card to the license plate to the car that you are taking out, and for what reason.
The large dealer I worked for was extremely half-assed when it came to plates. You could nab one off any salesman’s desk, or just wait until a lot guy left one in the window of a car. Lots of them walked away. That said, there was a salesman who would take random used cars home and let his teenage kids drive them. He got canned.
I know a guy that went to a dealership after hours and found a brand new car unlocked with keys in it and a dealer plate on it. He took it for the night and dropped it off back at the dealership before they opened with no gas left. Other than a few smoke shows, he didn’t do any damage to the car and no one was the wiser.
Bet you can get a good deal on it, because you know he beat the shit outa it.
We used to take the used mustangs and camaros out for the night when my friend worked at a certain used car dealer.
When i picked up my challenger they had me drive it from the front of the lot into the garage to detail it. They would not let anyone drive it but the guy who got it off the truck.
