Auto Insurance tips and tricks?

Credit also has an effect. No credit can be just as bad as bad credit

^Really? (Allstate). Compared to what other people are quoting, Allstate is boning me. $170/mo for 3 cars, all over 10 years old (A Cherokee and 2 4-door VWs), no collision, spotless record, live in the country, I’m 26 and I also have homeowners through them. My rates just shot up this year for no reason. They’re supposed to me easy to deal with for claims, but what the fuck do I care when I have no collision. I’m also wondering if the rates for my homeowners will go up if I drop them for car insurance?

Quotes are different for all kinds of companies and people. All you can do is just call around. Even though I know Geico to be cheap for example, it might be cheap for me because Geico has plenty of people in the risk pool they assign me that are paying in but are not filing claims (and making Geico pay out.)

They very well might put you into a different pool of people where they are having to pay more claims, therefore requiring higher premiums to be paid from those in the pool to make up for those payouts. Not saying it’s reflective of anyone’s driving record, just saying that the company just might have had to pay more claims than usual in a given time period, requiring higher premiums.

i had progressive and saved about 500 a year switching to Erie

my only tip would be to have a cheap “beater” as your daily driver and the new vehicle put down as a pleasure vehicle

cheap beater w/o comp/collision will make your premiums alot cheaper

my buddy had an s2000 and an old 88 ranger, he got rid of the ranger and his insurance tripled

I must be making out like a bandit. I’m only 21 and i’m with SafeCo and my premium is a tick over 700 for the year. I do drive a 9 year old truck though with 50/100/50 and $500 deductible with no collision.

That’s why.
