auto to manual swap in a 97 240

i’m sure its been asked before but…what kind of labour and parts are involed in a swap like this and is it really worth my time?

please if anyone has done one or can pass this on to someone who has it would be great as it will influence my buying of the car

Thanks
Chase

5-speed tranny with clutch
Flywheel/pressure plate
all the bolts (bellhousing/flywheel)
the snadwich plate (between tranny/block)
thorw out bearing & pilot bearing
M/C
clutch pedal/brake pedal
clutch line (hard & flex)
slave
tranny harness
shifter + knob
shift boot

however I beleive the S14 97/98 uses a different wiring harness than all other models (emissions)
and the S14 uses a different speed sensor than S14.

You’d be best off to track down an S14(97/98) tranny.

It can be done, and is fairly simple

List of things u need:

Brake Pedal and Clutch Pedal
For s14 u have to get the console piece from the dealer for shifter
shifter and all hardware…suggest some kind of short shifter
Steel line for clutch line to slave cylinder (roughly 9 feet and fittings)
Flaring Tool to put the fittings on (rent one at canadian tire)
Clutch Master Cylinder
Slave Cylinder
5 speed tranny
Clutch Kit, recommend brand new because you dont wanna have to change it. (clutch, throw-out bearing, and pressure plate)
Flywheel (if old one would need to be machined for cracks)
s14 manual speed sensor (since the s14 auto IS NOT the same)
Gear Oil (75w90 synth or 80w90)
Thats all i can think of at the moment

Labour:

All in all its not a hard swap to do when you have done a couple of them but each time new problems occur. If you are not very mechanically enclined i suggest getting someone who has done one before do it. If need be i can give you a few people who can.

Good Luck… PM me for more info if needed.
