Bad bike accident on the 400N near Transit.

Plenty of time I’ve been involved in some ass-hattery, but when no one was around, back roads, empty roads and so forth. On my way to teach at like 6am on saturday/sunday going up harlem I’d take half a dozen trips around the double circles at wherle and kensington foot out dragging pegs on the supermoto. Cop flashed his lights sitting at Tops, so I pulled into the lot next to him, said hi, asked WTF I was doing and he saw me in my NY State Motorcycle Safety Program jersey and said I was playing a little when no one was around on my way to teach as I was early. Said no one’s around but you, and taking a few laps wasn’t that unsafe with no one around. He thanked me for teaching, said he wished more of the “Organ donors” would take the course as he was tired of people dying. (shortly after Rich & Jose)

You only live once, yes its a risk but the amount of risks you take in your life is pretty extensive. You trust crack mechanics on roller coasters. All depends on where you ride.

When riding in safe conditions, with a clear head, nothing beats cruising a country road smelling the fresh air, feeling the sunshine beat down on you. That’s why I ride.

Really? You’re comparing deaths on amusement rides because of shitty mechanics vs bike accidents?

Please don’t make me actually find the stats on this

That mentality is a perfect example of how the ride with pride courses in a parking lot really don’t give people real world experiences and a false sense of confidence. There is a lot of people (3 last year alone) who have crashed after that class because they left thinking they knew how to ride a bike in their head so they can do it on the road and things change when you are outside of the parking lot, taking real turns, and dealing with passing cars trying to kill you.

I understand you are a teacher but you should know that getting the feel from a new bike after not being on one in 3 years with less than optimal tires doesn’t make you a poor rider or reckless. Hell, I give myself a pat on the back for not being like a lot of people and jumping on the thing to prove myself to other riders. Rather, I was self aware and knew the mechanics of riding however, I was taking it slow to get the feel for a new bike into the heavy curves. I spent time working my way into steeper curves and proper positioning, and mechanics to be a better rider. Just making it through a turn doesn’t necessarily mean you did it right. By the end of the summer I was able to lay it down comfortably into a turn in proper riding position, learned the braking from taking at least a day a week in a parking lot practicing quick stops and avoidance maneuvers, and have a better understanding of the differences between this machine and what i have ridden before without being an ass hat. Hell, this year I will probably take until June before I am out comfortably doing knee draggers because I have not been on the bike in 5 months and want to get the basic accident avoidance maneuvers back as a habit.

Racing a bike with a car is bad juju

Isn’t that what the internet is for?

Ride with pride made me more respectful of the road. With years of experience with quads/dirt bikes/sleds I was fairly comfortable on a motorcycle. I know how fast and easy something can go wrong. I was glad I took the class, I learned a lot from it. I cant say the same for most of the people in my class. They may have passed the test but had no business being on a motorcycle.

Best class I ever took.

This.

Back on topic, I guess the guy may face manslaughter charges. His friend blew him in for going 120MPH, weaving between traffic, and crashing into a truck that was changing lanes. Very sad that the girl was the victim on this.

Maybe a punishment of sitting on a billboard on 400 that reads “I killed this girl(with a picture of the girl) by ass-hatting on my rice rocket” would be good… Everyday for 6 months.

Man I just saw this thread. Sucks to the girl, RIP.

Looks like he locked up the rear. I’ve never seen any good come from the use of the rear brake unless you’re on dirt/gravel in a panic, or you’re at the track and know what you’re doing.

Be safe everyone…

I just love all the banter about how the majority of sport bike riders act like douche bags all the time. There are a close if not equal amount of douche bags that ride other types of motorcycles. Even more amusing is that some of the harshest critics of sport bike riders hop into their sports cars and do equally retarded things on public roads. If you show off your car or a new modification to other people via a ride you have most likely put other people in danger, just like a sport bike rider with a passenger who is riding like a retard. Also the ability to hurt others on the road is higher with a larger much heavier form of transportation like another car. The perfect place for sport bikes and sports cars is the race track, but that’s not for everyone. If people drive race track oriented vehicles on the road aggressively shit will happen and people will die. Like stated before you should know what your getting yourself into wether your the driver or the passenger. The shitty part is when someone dies that had no control over the end of their life regardless of wether it was a bike or car accident. RIP, I feel for the family and friends involved.

Found out tonight the GF’s dad was right behind them when it happened. Said he wont soon forget the sight of the girls body.

only 120 mph, he must be new

The course was written by the MSF, by contract by the state it has to be run as such. It is not the last class, end all be all. It is one of many, as a foundation on which to build. I can’t control some lacky who can’t ride 2 consecutive U-turns, one to the left, and one to the right (the DMV and everyone else says “figure eight” which it is not) on their sportbike, or the court mandates it, I <3 how many court ordered students we get, so they don’t want to be there. Sitting through the class, and answering a few multiple guess questions, and sitting on a bike 2 days in the sun, you better be able to ride a 250 through the road test eval. This does not make you the Zen master, twist of the white water wristing walk on water motorcyclist. All we can do is expose students to safe and prudent motorcycle operation, and evaluate students as the state requires. If your hommies all hanging at Mighty with LED’s blew it off, and are off riding the same way as they were before, I hope they signed the back of their drivers lic. so someone else can live. After the BRC, there is the BRC2 which is a 1 day course taken on your bike, after that there is the ARC which changed names again, the Advance Riders Course/Sportbike techniques. Not offered locally, but there are even track courses offered by the MSF, off road courses and so on. The BRC is the BASIC Rider Course, from having never seen a motorcycle in your life to being able to operate it, and have the means to grow.

RIP. I feel very bad for the family. I hope the other guy makes it and has a full recovery. I had a bad wreck last year and totaled my VROD spent close to a month in ECMC. I locked up the rear trying to avoid a dumb bitch blowing a stop sign. I highsided once I put the bike down, did about a dozen cart wheels. Hell, I even have video from a gas station. I am still healing and now have multiple metal plates and screws. I just can’t say it enough riding safe and being responsible just is not enough. I am lucky to be alive and am able to ride again once the new bike is finished. I will never own anothe bike without ABS. Everyone has their own opinion about ABS but any little bit helps. Be safe…

Electronic nannies are great, but bikes stop plenty fast without it if you practice and then execute
Post the video of the wreck… Glad you survived
