Tough to slide under the rear of a truck when it’s going ~65mph/highway speeds… without doing light ludacris speed. RIP to the victim.
Nobody learns anything from any of this anyways…
Two nights ago this happened…
People from here were out racing bikes last night
People suck as estimating speed esp on a bike. 120MPH is a bold statement but the FB posts about the need for speed validate the guy was probably not on the 400 for the scenery.
Sport bike + triple digit speeds + passenger + first time out in months + traffic? Jesus.
That’s crazy.
Somebody should get ahold of a lawyer and see if they want to advertise on here about drawing up wills.
Scott is pretty good at this.
So many thoughts, so little time. This is just shitty all the way around.
People are just so fucking stupid.
HAHAHHHAHAHAHAH
Crap. lol.
doing 120+ mphq with a passenger in traffic is way diffrent the a 2nd gear pull with a bike on an open road with no one in sight
However people want to justify that is fine…
Its barley spring lots of gravel, pot holes and other shit and everyone is just getting back on their bikes.
After what happened with the Neon/Mustang a while back and the jail time that came from that I would be skeptical of racing bikes.
2 people have already died in WNY this season on sport bikes figured people might act semi responsible for a couple days lol
Here’s my speculative guess on what happened.
The rider was going WOT off to the unfortunate lady. (We’ve all done it to some extent) It was late at night, dark, minimal traffic, and they were probably just playing off one another (the other rider), my guess is the truck changed lanes or did something that caused the rider to panic, bikes stop MUCH slower with the extra mass on the back, I bet he swerved and jacked the front brake which caused it to tuck and the rest is history. Or, he just clipped the back of the truck which caused the accident.
But i have a strong suspicion it was a tucked front end from panic stopping that caused the accident. And that’s truly unfortunate.
My exgf used to get angry if I brought a girl for a ride on my bike, and would often retort “how would you like it if I rode on the back of another guys bike?!?!”
this is the reason… “I dont trust 90% of the people I ride with to ride with somebody that I love on the back of their bike, and I’d murder him if their carelessness cost her life”
It had nothing to do with anything but her safety… because this is what guys do with pretty girls… I’m guilty of it.
Heck i remember riding with scott, brian, and geoff on the back of my ninja and we went silly fast on it before they had bikes. In retrospect, could have been me on many occassions. I often wonder what a 2 second lag in time could have done in my riding career. Anyone else ever think about that?
Good post. ^^^
Will, from the brief explanation I got through tears at the hospital you sound right on. she said it
swerved, wheel locked up, they fishtailed a few times, and then dumped. Never hit the truck I believe.
I’m sure 20 people on here will attest to the fact that I used to preach certain things on a day to day basis… Geoge, ie curvecrazy, used to tell me this as well, and I can honestly say it saved my life more than one time.
EVERYTIME YOU GO OUT, STOP IN A BIG EMPTY PARKING LOT, GO 0-30-0, 0-40-0, 0-50-0, etc etc… practice stopping until your comfy with the tire lifting off the ground or the front tire skidding out and practice your response… IT NEEDS TO BE SECOND NATURE so this stuff doesnt happen. Different tarmac will react differently, so will painted lines, different tires, wetness, temperature, etc etc… the reactions will always be the same, progressive squeezing until traction brakes or the bike stoppies… again, it must be second nature. If you havent practiced stopping as fast as possible from the speed your willing to ride, then you have no business riding that speed.
Now do this same drill and throw in a swerve, or practice doing it whilst turning (technique should be smooth braking once the bike is vertical, roll off the brake, progressively turn again, etc etc… but panic stopping should never involve stabbing a brake lever or pedal… (which happens a lot, see harley guys… http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/21/sport/football/saints-bounties-discipline/index.html?hpt=hp_t1 They seem to hate their front brakes)
PS, all of the stuff above should go out the window when you have a passenger, especially if youre exceeding those limits. Because although the reactions are the same the distances nearly double with an addition 150 lbs on the bike.
This drill should be done everytime you ride and have 5 minutes to do it… A. it will save your life, B. it will become fun, C. it makes you a better rider, and D. Stoppies are panty droppers… nothing is more aesthetically pleasing than a well executed stoppie. (all kidding aside) going 120 mph will rarely save your life, doing a wheelie will never save your life, Stopping fast can, and WILL save your life. I guarantee it.

EDIT. if they fish tailed, he used way too much rear brake and most likely highsided, especially if it happened at over 60 mph.
This.
This sucks. I’ve lost a few friends due to bikes and had a few very close friends almost die. One last summer he got rear ended at 120mph from another biker and dropped it obviously. That was enough of a shock to me and they lived. People need to stop hoping on a SS bike thinking they are the next Valentino Rossi because they can go fast and haven’t crashed YET.
My condolences go to the family and friends of that innocent girl. This sucks. :frown:
Rest in Piece.
That would be the smart thing but even after the big 290 crash with Rich and Jose, there was 2 crashes a few days later.
Yep. Shooting down the right lane in triple digits with a passenger and punching brakes sounds like it would put the bike into a skid causing it to eventually sideswipe the truck from the articles throwing both of them and her into the guard rail.
Everyone with a bike has opened it up before but again, time and a place to rip it. Not with cars or trucks and not in the right lane. Remember this, going 100 MPH, you are covering 146.66 feet per second. They say on average, your driving reaction time is .7 seconds to see something and act so in that case, you have already covered 103 feet before you even can react. Think about that before you throw on a passenger and try to weave through traffic.
Sold mine, with every ride, I’ve had a close call. Got hit last year by a half ton dodge truck… I’m going to continue to teach, and not sure if I’ll get another. I rode with other people 3 or 4x last year. Two times with one other fellow rider coach, and once on a funeral ride with a pack of fellow rider coaches. I flat out refused to ride with other people… Hearing people like boxxa above last year justify him being a good rider, but unable and uncomfortable turning last year? shudders Seeing more and more d-baggery out every day I see bikes. All the middle aged warriors out on harleys with straight pipes revving away from lights with their haggard ass slam pieces fighting to hold on.
Every class I rode to, I would spend the better part of half an hour on the range on my own bike before I left. On the airfield in Angola would practice practice practice. Backing it in, sliding, threshold braking. All of this plus my DH biking, and Mtn biking trials background helped me keep my bike up when I got hit last year. Driver tried to run from the scene, I caught him in the parking lot of McDonalds in Derby across the street from the Ride With PRIDE classroom. Half the class saw me get hit, the other half was in the drive-through watching me climb through the window and almost kill the ignorant red-neck who “Didn’t see” me as I almost got sucked under his rear tire.
I rode the school owner’s Ninja 650 back to the Eastern Hills Mall classroom earlier this spring. Sitting at a red light, a pig in a Love Pink hoodie on her Iphone 4 (yeah, I was that fucking close) almost clipped the front wheel as I sat in the turning lane when she was turning left because she “Didn’t see” me in my HIGH VISABILITY YELLOW JACKET, on a NEON FUCKING GREEN Kawasaki bike. I reached out and folded her mirror in as she drove by and took her attention away from either texting her BFF or taking jailbait pics of her FUPA for someone on here and scared the SHIT out of her as she almost drove into the half a dozen people waiting at a bus stop as she railed the curb and onto the sidewalk.
FUCK people. No one is safe, no one is paying attention.
Well said. I still look at my class DM on my license from time to time and miss riding but people are just too ignorant.
Truth.
