Most leather jackets are $250+. Depending on where you park your bike, most people don’t want to just leave a jacket chilling on a spot that they can’t keep an eye on it. Most people who carry around helmets want attention since most bikes have helmet locks. I know a few people who’s bikes don’t have helmet locks tho so they sometimes are stuck carrying it if its in a questionable area.
My only argument for LEDs is bikes are hard to see as it is. From the side, you have one 1" circle that is your side marker and typically don’t have any other lights. LEDs do provide a bit more visibility along with loud pipes but there is always people who do things to fit in and have that LOOK AT ME attitude and some people who just enjoy working on something they think looks cool in their own minds.
The article said he helmet flew off. I wonder if she snapped it with the quick snap and didn’t strap it in. Could have been the big difference here between living and dying which is sad as well.
I know I cant get a bike for several reasons. My family, 2 wheels, and an engine… dont go together. Also, I am way to big an adrenaline seeker and would not be able to control myself. My controlling is not getting a bike in the first place. To many others should follow in my steps but decide not to and it ends badly.
Police say both Ayer and Olsen were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Olsen’s helmet came off during the crash, but officials say she didn’t die from head injuries.
Interesting. One report seemed to make it a point that her helmet flew off when they crashed so I thought maybe someone snapped it and didnt strap it on properly.
Well, we had a little talk about that. I tell you what, she is really putting in an effort to be more defensive. I’m proud of her for changing her bad “habit.”
I understand he was being an asshat but I feel terribly for the mental anguish this kid is going to feel for the rest of his life. One stupid mistake and this is what can happen.
What an awful situation all around. So tragic. RIP.
I understand, my leather was $400 ish. Neither of my bikes have a helmet lock, but I won’t take my bike to a questioble area. This is just excuses. You honestly expect me to belive that he had LED’s for better visibility?
:choda:
There are scumbags EVERYWHERE. I often will take it with me if im running in for under 5 minutes to a store if its not in sight. Its just quicker sometimes
I HATE reading posts like this… I’ve known a few people that have died on bikes the past couple years. Honestly, coming from a sportbike rider, sporties shouldn’t be legal on the road, they are track bikes which is why there are SO many accidents every year with them. It’s WAY too easy for anyone to get all the confidence in the world. In this case as someone previously stated, they were riding two-up. This bike was not designed to be ridden with a passenger which is probably why he couldn’t slow down. If your gonna cruise with people get a cruiser, if you want a sportbike, race it at a damn track, not with a passenger on the back down the thruway.
Let’s hope we don’t all have to read another post like this in 2012! Stay safe bikers and car’s, LOOK OUT FOR US!!!
Responsibility falls on the shoulder of the rider, passenger, and people who share the road … “Guns don’t kill people” mentality exists here.
SS bikes have better handling, stopping, acceleration, than other bikes on the road, so I’ll argue they are safer than 99% of the 2 wheeled vehicles on the road. The difference is in the area between the riders ears. Or lack of substance filling that area.
i just started riding this season and started going on the highway recently. I was already a cautious driver before this (staying out of blind spots, not following closely, ect)
IMO if you are coming up on a car/truck fast especially in the right lane, and you are expecting them to stay in their lane that is one hell of an assumption.
its one thing to run through the gears when its clear ahead but I can’t believe people do this kind of stuff all the time (especially with another persons life and weight raising the stakes)
RIP for the girl, its too bad this asshole wasn’t the one not walking away from this
I don’t think i could ever deal with being the cause of someone elses death… unless i actually tried to kill them.
i have gotten cut off before in mid-day, with the car FACING me turning into a parking lot, while i was going under the speed limit. People are fucking stupid. This happened like 5 times, twice within 10seconds of each other, to the point where i was sideways down a road with my brakes locked, smoking tires and contemplating if i should jump off or dive onto their hood.
although i personally loved riding my bike by myself, i absolutely hated driving with groups of people larger than 3, or with a passenger
If there is any truth to that, and he was going remotely near that speed, then fuck that asshole.
And fuck everyone who rides like that. This is a sad thread, and I’m sorry for shitting it up, but I drive the thruway at least a few hours each day, and every single warm day I see shit heads on sport bikes doing stupid shit. I’m absolutely disgusted with most sport bike riders, and frankly, most riders in general.
Since most won’t notice the link or won’t click on it…
…It’s a haunting premonition. Two hours before 24-year-old Chelsea Olsen died in a motorcycle crash, she posted this picture on her Facebook page, with the caption: “We got a need for speed.”
West Seneca Police Lt. Edward Baker said, “We do have reports from witnesses that they were traveling at a high rate of speed. Based on our early investigation, it does look like that was the case.”
In fact, according to sources, the bike Olsen was riding on was flying up Route 400 at over 120 MPH Tuesday night. The driver, 29-year-old Joseph Ayer of Cheektowaga, came up on a pickup truck. The sources tell News 4 the truck driver tried to change lanes, but couldn’t get out of the way fast enough.
Ayer’s bike slid underneath it, and Olsen was thrown, striking two guiderail posts with so much force, they broke…
