Battery draining problem

Having some trouble with the battery draining on my car, and Im hoping someone here has some insights. When I go to start my car in the morning, after sitting overnight, the battery is dead. If I get a jumpstart and drive immediatly after, the battery will charge and be fine for the rest of the day. So it seems to be a slow drain.

I have an Optima yellowtop which has been relocated to the trunk, and Im using a permacool electric fan. My first guess was that the fans thermostat was set too sensitive and was going off too long after the car had been shut off, and draining the battery. I set it at its lowest setting, and Im still having the same problem.

My engine bay is also a greasy mess at the moment and its been suggested to me that it can actually drain the battery that way. Any other suggestions?

well its most likely a problem when the battery was relocatted. Your going to need to do some trouble shooting like, staying around with the car to make sure the fan is going off, and how long it is taking to turn off. look for open wires touching.

till you figure it out, why not just remove the negative terminal off the battery to prevent draining?

Also check all your connections and your wiring. Check the contacts on the battery, make sure they are nice and tight.

Heres an ig’nant electrical question… my thermostat and control for the electric fan are connected directly to the battery, is it possible thats the problem?

It’s unlikely … but if something happens to the wires and they touch a ground … good chance you could start a fire or do other serious damage.
Only makes sense to install a fuse inline close to the battery!
