Lions, Tigers, and Electrical Problems. Oh My!!!!

Ever since I got my car, April of last year, I have had an electrical problem. If I don’t drive my car on a daily basis, when i go to start my car in the morning the battery is dead. I have tried to correct this problem by replacing the battery (got a new Optima Red Top) and had my mechanic take a look at it. He has no idea what the problem is. When the car is off, we tested the terminals to see if there is a draw and nothing registers.

I have no clue how to fix this problem and hope that somebody here can provide a solution. I’m tired of the car dying on me. I have a system the the car and love to pump the beats 8) but now i’m too scared of it draining the battery too much so it wouldn’t start the next day.

Also, my alternator seems to be ok… Any suggestions?

check inside the wheel wells (front). some idiot nissan engineer decided to put wiring harness’ in there. If your wheels rub them, electrical issues ensue.

nope, wish it were this easy. i only recently put my megans in but have no rubbing issues. Problem has been around since i first got the car.

Anyone else?

I noticed you said you like to pump the beats - sounds like you’re running sub(s). First remove the possibility of your amp constantly draining the battery - my brother had this type of problem with his gts - the remote trigger wire was shorting and amp kept eating away at the battery even when rest of the car was off.

If you’re electrically inclined, try testing with amp meter on the (1) main amp power wire and (2) remote trigger wire (16 gauge) running from your deck. See if there is drain when your car is off.

OR if this problem is guaranteed, pop out the amp’s power line fuse before night and pop it in when you need the beats. Then you can see if battery drains out or not. Just an idea - you got nothing to lose.

so your ruling out the fact that maybe the previous owner had a rubbing issue… and replaced the inner fender wellls after poor elec. repair…
^this scenario was my personal case with my current cahssis

your certain its not a short in your stereo?

he specifically said there was no draw on the battery so any of that is impossible, no?

but if thats the case - i think it was tested wrong because it would have to be a battery issue in that case… but he replaced the battery.

Here is a couple of other things that could help isolate the issue:

  1. Check voltage at the battery terminal when your car is running - test charging system
  2. any constantly burning out fuses? Any burned out fuses as of today?
  3. lead the voltmeter wires in around the lights onto the battery so you can close hood completely and check the OHM reading to see if it changes when the hood is all the way down.

if it’s not the system that’s draining the battery from what the mechanic tested, it could be something outside the system. Again - just something you can try.

There could still be a loose contact somewhere that shows up once car is moving.

battery kill swith it is…FTW
