Verizon has boring phones. Anything remotely interesting in development is massively crippled by the time it is released. Their customer service (for me) has always sucked.
Just a few reasons that sent me running from Verizon.
im not bashing palms software. the 650 and 700p were decent phones, the centro just sucks. just wait and see, it will ring at random times, power cycle, freeze. as i said, HIGH rate of return on those, any customer that had either the 650,700 or 755 that wants to stay with the palm software that goes to the centro returns it for a blackberry.
i dont really feel im being ripped off working at the store either? 45k a yr with no college degree, great benefits, 401k and $8k a yr for school. really not that bad of a deal??
and im sorry you dont like the majority of vzw phones. i guess we can just leave it at that. but i wouldnt say the centro is ahead, by any means. if the one newer pda that isnt vznav capable, they did away with the hard writing feature the old palms had, ect
idk, how else is it light years ahead? (not saying this to start more shit with you, just curious)
if this was directed at me, thats not what im getting at. the PHONES i listed are probably vzw’s best, along with like the 8350. pda’s would be any blackberry. im not saying there arent better phones out there, i know there are, but back in boardjnkys original thread he asked about vzw phones.
the software is more inuitive. It is faster and easier to compose a text message. Maybe three buttons/clicks before you are typing. The Voyager was about 10. To go from ring to vibrate, just flip the switch on top of the phone. Voyager, unlock, then hit the button on the side 5 times. Chat-style chat. Speaker sound is clearer. Music player is better organized(ipod like folder structure). Programmable shortcut keys are there. Ability to add-on applications. Power management options. Battery life seems good so far, but that will have to wait to be proven. awesome calendar that can be synced to the PC. IRDA. Speakerphone is loud and clear. Camera is better than most but not really important. Touchscreen is designed for a stylus, but I have never needed to use it. Buttons are easy to press with a finger. It only cost me 50 dollars.
Windows Mobile powered phones, I am iffy about.
I am also not saying it(centro/palm os) is the best phone out there. The blackberries are the best IMO, however, I don’t have a need for email/web browsing and I really don’t want that extra 25-30 dollars on my monthly bill.
sorry if I flipped on you, but it doesn’t take a genious to see that cell phone companies are crippling the true abilities of the phones. They are not focusing on the right aspects of their software. It is THE reason why the iphone is the top dog of the cell phone industry right now.
for the customer service aspect of things it goes both ways, or how ever many ways there are cell companies. there is always the customers that have bad experiences and switch carries, i see people come to vzw because of it and leave because of it.
ill agree with the point u brought up about the centro, keep in mind though you went from a phone to a pda, most of the features that you listed as better dont really come on any phone, but come on all pdas. (except maybe the iphone, thats like a crossover)
and id say more of the reason the iphone is so popular is marketing, just like all of apples products. i have played with them and they are alright but nothing THAT fantastic. you can get lots of 3rd party apps for any of vzws smartphones/pdas
Exactly, they don’t come on any phone, but most are not difficult implementations, and they shouldn’t ONLY be available on the phones that carry an extra 25-30 monthly charge(since after the 14th you NEED the data plan according to evolve).
I really disagree with that. There was the inital wave of people who were all about it becuase it was an apple product. You put an apple logo on anything and they would have bought it.
the reason its the number 1 phone in the country is becuase its functional, has a TON of apps and games that are free, and has all the smart phone features.
on top of that is the cool technology that takes it beyond a cell phone like its 3d display ability and also has a large memory space for music as an iPod.
It has features that do not come on any phone. Ya, verizon has get it now but the quality of apps is far different. Also, the iPod is a real ipod. Nota 2GB SD card you slam into the thing and copy music over. I have yet to see a phone other than the G1 come close to it. Maybe googles next wave will step up and compete but I really think the Storm is more advertised than the iPHone
yeah, i like the idea of the ipod ALOT but, blackberrys media player is actually not that bad, can hold up to 8gb on an sd card and it will sync with itunes
again though, i dont think comparing the iphone to phones is fair. its more a pda, i mean it too requires a $30 data plan, but so many ppl overlook that because its an iphone. idk, theres pros and cons anyways you look at it.
ALL phones should have the ability to add applications on. QUALITY games and other useful applications that has an open SDK. Not just those pathetic games that you have to subscribe to on Get It Now.
This is america, I want to be free to add-on to the basic functionality of any phone. Not just the "PDA"s
All cell phones are just mini-computers. The only thing that sets any of them apart is software. It is all about the software.
