Okay this is gonna be a long *** post, so If you don’t want to help me out stop reading now. This is from a relativley dumb kid/newb machanic that likes 240s, and its a DD/having fun car.
Okay, so It was the summer of 06’. I started looking for a car to buy, and while browsing the autotrader I really thought 240sxs were nice. So I found this forum and began to read.
Bam one day, I found one. I paid $1800 for a 90’ 240sx for 300 000kms, auto and I was happy. My first car and dayum it was hella nice. BIG MISTAKE
Yay!
Anyway as time went on and Canadian Winters came the problems came in too!
-Terrible gas mileage, 300kms per full tank.
-Lifters tick like mad.
-Belts were old and sucked and squeek whens its cold.
-Seals sucked, frost on my windows and interior
-Heat sucked bad
-Interior Sucked, brown uglyness
-High Km engine started to rattle and make tinny sounds.
-Alternator is starting to go.
-Shimmy on wheel above 70kms
I got a new tank, installed it and it still sucks, gas mileage blows. Anyway so theres a bunch of problems and its god damn cold here!
Other then that, its got a good body and the frame rails were patched recently.
Today I bit into a gaurd rail going 65kms on a 35 km off ramp. Yay laugh all you want. It was iced, and I didnt see it coming. I was on my way to check out a new 240 and I think the car got mad and understeered me into a post. The tie rod bent bad, and the steering was jacked. My front qaurter is dented and I was pissed.
Brought it to a really nice machanic, and he jacked it up and bent the tie rod PERFECTLY back into place, hell my car drives better now - there aint no more shimmy past 80kms!
Is drivng with a bent back into place tie rod bad? I dont think I need an alignment, it steers fine and you can let it go and it drives in one line.
ANYWAY so the main question is I found this!

It has 128 000 kms and runs niiiice.
I can get it for about 800 canadian.
It needs…
-Breaks all round
- A gas tank (OMG I JUST BOUGHT ONE)
- Windsheild
- Passenger frame rail has two small holes in it.
- Drivers side frame rail has a small kink in it - its bent upwards.
-The auto tranny seems to be gummy when you switching from like park to drive. The auto shifting is fine, but when you change it its really gummym and it doesnt seem to pop into place. Linkage?
The rockers obviously need work too.
So in your best opinions, should I swap the stuff from that car into mine? Or work on that car and use mine as parts? Im not the most mechanically inclined person, I can learn and did a gas tank my self - thats my current skill level. Im more leaning towards fixing the white car up, although thats my unexperianced opinion.
I know I cant swap an engine myself, and I guess the cost will = the cost of doing the rockers on the other car.
Id get the rockers done at a body shop and prolly get it “certified” and leave the frame. Is that fine for a DD car that I just want to play around in.
I dont drift
I dont race
I just like to have fun - better then driving a hyndai or sunfire .
My car is too unreliable and I figure a 128 000 kms car would be a bit better and would last me a bit longer.
Whats your opinions?
