black top will not turn over.

hey guys… freshly swapped like a month ago from my old s13…

so ive been toying around here and there making custom things and i finally was finished last night…

turned the key, walboro turns on… that was a good sign, cluster turns, lights signal high beam…everything is fine…

so i turn the key and i just hear “click” from the right hand fuse box

wellllll…that kinda puzzled me because the fuse box on the right side has nothing to do with the motor turning over…

so wut do u guys think… there was sumone on here with almost the same problem, but he didint connect some wires… i have checked over the lower and upper harness and i dont seem to see nething out of place.

also when i turn it and it “clicks” the radio power gets cut and my boost controller power gets cut.

starter?

i unno thats y im posting… could be the starter… but it doesint even crank nothing, just CLICK when i turn the key and power loss to my radio until i let go of the key ( which was only a second neways )

check your battery voltage

if its good, check starter connections and grounds

if theyre good, try whacking the starter solenoid with a 2x4 and then starting

ground problem

battery is brand spanking new 800cca optima red top that i returned cuz it has 3 year warrenty ,cuz i thought it was that as well…

as for grounds ive checked them they seem intact but how will i tell if there ACTUALLY good…like the 2 that are at the fire wall ,

just trying to figure out if that clicking is the starter shorting out or bad connection… or if this click is a ground issue.

was the car an auto before?

no this chassis was 5 speed…abs 89.

get a multi meter and place it onto the starter terminal, turn the key and see if its getting power there at the same time…
if you are, then ure starters gone, if ure not, then check the main fuse and relays.

thanks alot, changing batteries in the voltmeter now…

will see wut happens

Check the 75AMP fuse in the passenger side fuse panel. Its is under ALT fuse or something.

I had the same problem, exact same symptoms, did you relocate your battery to the back? As someone suggested, try checking the voltage at the starter. My issue turned out to be not enough juice coming from the battery, had to run a new cable from the battery to the front.

alt fuse wouldnt keep your car from not starting, it will only not charge the battery, and doesnt give any power to any of the accessories.

ok replaced relays…NOTHING…i tried manual starting thee starter by crossing the wires… she turns over but doesint sound like a crank its just spinning

Are you tripping the start motor and bypassing the solinoid(sp)?

no nothing starter doesint even move when i turn the key all i hear is a click in the fuse box…

the right hand fuse box <{ if ur sitting in the car }

pull the starter and have it tested. when my starter went my car was doing the exact same thing.

i had the exact same problem

if you hear the clicking, it prolly the starter

if you bypassed the solenoids on the starter 9corssed wires as you say) and you just hear a spinning/whirring noise, then the stater is toast.

Had it happen once, just pulled the starter. Tested, pulled an old one from junk and shoved that one in. Mine had clicks so i asumed it was fried or shorted or something.
