I use the MAX button all the time in Florida, never used my REST button yet. Also, if you have one of the newer versions of idrive (I think 06’ or 07’ and up) you can program the A/C (or heater) to turn on and off at certain times (for instance, 5 minutes before you usually leave for work in the a.m. or before you leave work at the end of the day). I think they are great little features!

It was 47 degrees in Florida this morning, I tested the rest button when I parked at the gym, it works.
