BP Gas Stations, do you still buy gas there?

So some people seem to not care at all, some people seem to think that boycotting BP gas stations is the right thing to do.

What do you guys think?

My reasoning:

  1. They are locally owned, and while BP does profit off them, you are hurting local business owners more.
  2. Bankrupting BP isn’t going to do us ANY good, how can they clean up a mess when they are broke?

The rebuttle I heard from number 2 was, “Then the government should step in”. From which I respond, “Then I have to pay with my tax money to clean it up”. Then there was silence.

So, vote. Do you still buy gas from BP?

Reason #2 is pretty much my thinking.

crap the thread title and poll question are like opposites

Whoops, I voted wrong. Your thread title asks the opposite question your poll does.

Anyway, no, I wouldn’t avoid BP. I get my gas where ever and when ever it’s convenient paying no attention to nonsense calls for boycotts of brands, days etc.

I buy sonoco. because its consistant

There aren’t any near me. But the franchised stations that happened to have BP branding are getting owned hardcore. There aren’t any near me but I would buy from them because I own their stock since it hit $27.00.

yeah, I fixed the thread title

normally I don’t boycott shit…but they did something REALLY bad this time so I gave it thought.

Oops I thought you meant would I buy a station.

Yes.

BP will never go out.

They own Castrol and many other brands.

today’s TED talk… from TEDx OilSpill…

Does BP own any Canadian brand of gas stations? if so, i’ll consider boycotting out of bordeom… it’s nice to pretend to have a cause that matters sometimes… like environmentalists re: Global warming.

i am thinking of buying BP stock

Buy low, sell when everyone forgets the oil spill happened.

BP stock was a lot better value a couple weeks ago

it’s going to stay down for a while i suspect… especially given the sentiment at the TEDx in that video… I don’t think people are going to forget about this for a while.

what was the stock trend for the Exxon one?

This one is nearer to land and is affecting long-memoried americans.

Punching myself for not buying at the random “glitch” 15% drop that brought it to $27 or so per share.

LOL WUT? I’m starting to wonder if you’ve ever actually met an American?

haha

americans forget when the media forgets

I loled at that too but the truth is that southerners don’t forget about shit like this. Especially in the Mississippi area, I have friends and family who talk about every fucking hurricane that rolled through there in the last 40 years.

yeah, but in the context of stock prices, people forget quickly. As soon as this thing is over, and the media stops covering it, people will be back at BP stations not even realizing that’s what they’re buying.

i was referencing Katrina…
