Buying a TV ... Nerd help appreciated

I didn’t say it was, but I can see how it came off that way. I’m guilty of using big box stores too, though. I need to save where I can.

You can buy a $600-700 TV today that was comparable to the a top of the line a 1-1/2 years ago that sold for 1500+

This is similar to buying a computer in the late 90’s/early 2000s

True. The thing that sucks is you can see all the models on the wall at the store and you have to have the better/best one. You bring last year’s model home anyway, and you’re blown away.

This is my next “tv”.

budget 1080p projectors are still not there yet… I would spend more or wait a couple years. I want an LED projector someday.

one of the vendors I manage…

Got a chance to see some of the 4K projectors in use… pretty impressive.

LOL @ contrast ratio of 130,000:1 vs. 4000x1 for the Optoma… you’re gonna notice that…

Any opinions on this tv: Panasonic TC-P55UT50 http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIERA-TC-P55UT50-55-Inch-Plasma/dp/B00752VLB8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1354112360&sr=8-1&keywords=TC-P55UT50
I can get it for $903.00 +tax free shipping. That is about $100 cheaper than amazon and the best deal I have found thus far.

Oh, and they are throwing in one of these for free: http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMP-BDT220-Integrated-Blu-ray-Player/dp/B00752R4PK/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_y

Both the TC-P55VT50 and the TC-P55ST50 are rated the best for 55-59" TVs. I’d say it’s probably a good buy!

I can get the TC-P55ST50 for $1,024 plus tax, free shipping. I am comparing the two now since you say it is highly rated.

Just ordered a Panasonic 60" Plasma non-3D on Monday. I called, and got them to match a Fry’s wholesale price… Was about $830 with tax & free shipping. They had a special on that blu ray player, so it’s included too. Direct from Panasonic.

I just purchased this one… Sharp - AQUOS Quattron - 60" Class - LED - 1080p - 240Hz - Smart - 3D - HDTV

Incredible picture, it has the fourth color LED which is supposed to make it better. When I fired it up “Sid The Science Kid” was on and it looked like Sid was in my living room. lol

we have a bunch of those 4 channels aquos 60s at my office… they look great, but I don’t see them being worth 3x as much as my LG plasma or that much better really.

I have an LG plasma too and the Sharp is waaaaaaay better imho plus it has many sweet features too.

I still haven’t bought a TV. I just keep buying more guns.

I have the VT50 and is the best picture of any TV I’ve owned.

Same here. I don’t even have cable or anything just netflix and an antenna LoL.

the LG factory calibration sucks it took me days to get it true. Also make sure you’re in “just scan” so it’s giving a true 1:1 input/output otherwise the can look blurry. The 4 channels are much better out of the box and have an awesome color gamut for all the color proofing we need.

Any of you “nerds” know of a good deal for me to go grab a TV tomorrow? 36-40" I would guess? For a guest suite that hardly gets used…first world problems because I have 3 spare bedrooms and feel they should all be fully furnished and have too many guests this weekend. Wouldn’t want someone deprived of cable on a nice flatscreen in their bedroom for a few days. 4reelz
