Please explain why you want a intel over a amd? And you forgot hard drive and memory! Lol 8gigs of ddr3 is like $50 and look for a 7200rpm drive sata6 western digital black to be specific
I already have a 500gb Samsung 7200rpm hard drive (pn HD502HJ) I bought for my old computer but it never read the hard drive(other computers did, so the drive is ok), so I am going to get a ssd for the OS.
if you have the money go with intel the 2600k to be exact. they are much more powerful. Also I’d stick with western digital on the hard drive. A western digital caviar black is the best option.
Edit: and I’d stay away from the fatality power supply only because you are paying extra to have his name on it…
Edit2: if you want, I have a 1000W PC power and cooling turbo cool I’d let go for about $120 and you’d pretty much never have to worry about a power supply again lol.
it’s 1000 watts continuous power, 1100 watts peak power (what most companies use to rate their power supplies), 72 amps on a single 12v rail, and has pretty much all the connectors you will ever need and then some.
I’m going to stick with the hard drive I already have and maybe upgrade that later. But I will take that PSU from you and I’ll get the i7 processor instead of the AMD one.
Since everyone is chiming in I will say a i7 is over kill and why pay up the put for a 4 core CPU when you can get a 6 or 8 core cheaper that is just as fast? Personally I’m a amd and intel guy, yea intel has more of a umph but you really can see the difference at all only when crunching numbers
My point is your blowing $xxx on something that you can save a few bucks and get something almost as good, I’ve owned them all and reviews and stats really don’t mean anything to me. you need to test them out to your liking. Yea you can encode a video a few mins faster with a intel then a amd and by few I mean like 3 mins difference. Really it doesn’t matter that much. I just built my parents a i3 sandybridge machine and it’s way over kill for what they need and my mom runs a business etc on the computer really they see a slight difference going from a amd dual core to a intel dual core and really a difference was the speed and the amount of memory. All in all Travis was doing this on a budget this why I suggested getting a amd. And I mean comeon Intelsat beat chip retails at $1,000 that’s absurd, not to mention that they are still stuck on 4 cores (ht to add the 4 extra cores doesn’t count) at least amd is at 6 and 8 cores
As far as I am concerned, the “budget” part of this build went out the window when it topped $500. I’m really looking to build a legit desktop I can throw anything at for the next 4-5 years; huge assemblies in proE/solidworks, solving ansys analysis, etc, etc. While I am obviously not getting the best of the best I think I’ll have a super baller system when it’s all done. I really don’y know the actual differences between the different brands, I’m sure all this boils down to the same premise as a chevy/ford argument; both parties like their respective choices for whatever reason that isn’t significantly better than the other. I really don’t care if I get an AMD or Intel processor, I am just polling every source I have available to get the most knowledgeable answers. At this point I don’t mind spending the few extra hundred on key components if it will legitimately make a difference.
Anything else I will need besides windows when it comes time to install? My dad is picking up the case, mobo, and processor for me for christmas so I wont have those till then and we will be putting it together then.
