Can I cover my amp with plexi and not over heat it?

Ok, Im doing a custom system and wanted to know if it was ok to cover my amp with plexi glass? I dont want it to over heat so I was thinkin about getting one of those small computer fans and wiring it up inside to keep it cool. Heres my amp http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...TODAY.m238.lVI

fans should make it alright unless you plan on running the amp at like 1 or 2 ohm bridged at full tilt for along time. maybe try putting one fan on one end blowing in and one on the other side sucking out.

i did just that about 12 yrs ago in my van. 2 orion hcca 225 amps at.5ohm under plexiglass. one fan blowing in the other blowing out. worked great.

ya i would def put a fan or 2 in if the amp is gonna be covered up

Thanks guys. I ordered 2 of them last night. Ill be posting pics of the build

Should have just went to Best Lie and got two dynex fans, they are like 8 bucks each and pretty quiet

Why? I paid 9.98 shipped for 2 blue led ones lol

youll be fine with the fans jper.

^^ thanks

Progress pics from tonight…

That’s a lot of Great Stuff

Haha verry true. Just a few pics from tonight…More to come sunday when the project will be finished. . . . . hopefully

blue led? ricer…lol j/k

Haha blue led = like 10hp? jkjk

This question goes out to the people who know more than I do about wiring shit up…How should I wire these fans?

I’d put them on a switch, thats the most straight forward way to do it, i don’t think the “remote” line on the head unit carries enough current to power the two fans plus turn on the amp

run them off a relay triggered by ur remote turn on lead, that way they are on everytime the amp is on,

OR

order up some cool blue glowing switching and drill a hole in ur dash to mount them :yum:

OR

order one of them super cool neon shift knobs with built in switchs that would surely get u some stank…

go with the relays imo

relay on remote wire.

Thanks FBA if all else failed I was going to either give ya a PM or give ya a call…Quick question though…The remote wire that hooks to the amp is the one Im going to use…Well how do I split that to I can run it to 2 fans?

your goona want to run that remote wire from your head unit, (I usually use blue)

run that into a coil side of a relay, or 4, or 10, use a relay for each item you are planning to turn on with the radio.

ex. neons, 2 fans, 2 amps, electronic cross over would require 6 relays.

some people may disagree on my use of a relay for each item, but if a relay goes bad (which does happen) then it sure would be nice to only loose 1 item right?

ill make you a schematic, but im doing it in paint, and quicly so all u other 12v gurus try not to beat me up to bad on it. lol

EDIT removed typod relay way, inserted correct way
EDIT, #30 from the relay will be a 12volt positive source, so id use red to describe it as such to others who may be in there working, so all ud need to do is ground the ground wire from the fan, and connect #30 to the positive side of the fan

^^ holy hell! lol Im good at hookin systems up and electronics and what not but this is somethin I gotta study before doing! But thanks A LOT for the EXTRA help!
