Okay,
This must be a problem with my car, but from what a guy on another forum told me, 95 240’s can be started in gear, without the clutch in… No way Nissan would be allowed to sell a car from factory allowed to start in gear. In my car I can, but I think it’s cause it had a very bad wiring job on a car alarm, but can anyone confirm or deny that you can start your 95 240sx without the clutch in and in gear???
if your car was auto and converted to 5spd then yes u can start it in gear since u gotta jump the park safety switch thingy.
i know that Canadian S13’s have a clutch interlock switch but they are deactivated, so you can start your car in any gear… I accidently did it once.
Amercian S13’s have the switch activated so no clutch down equals no start.
I’m not sure about S14’s but I would assume they are the same.
Nope. The clutch interlock is activated in the s14’s.
I confirm. I have a 95 and I can start my car without the clutch. I can also start the car without the clutch and in gear (I found out about that when my gf did start it in gear, it was not on purpose lol).
not all S14’s have the clutch interlock… I’m pretty sure the FSM mentions that the Canadian S14 doesn’t have the clutch interlock and that the US model does have one…
Edit: look on page EL-26 (Electrical Section) and you’ll see the M/T model for US has a clutch interlock switch and relay. If the switch isn’t pressed in, the starter won’t turn on.
On page EL-27 you’ll see the M/T model for Canada and there’s no clutch interlock switch and relay at all… you can start the car in any gear.
Who cares though? When you start your car do you like normally try to turn it on in gear and then it won’t let you and you and you’re like “oh yeah I have to press the clutch in?”. If your car is manual isn’t it common sense to hold the clutch down while you’re starting or make sure it’s in neutral?
anyone who works on their car, its really nice to just reach in and turn the key, especially when your fithly dirty
soo if you have a alarm with starter and you accidently turn it on and its in gear wont your car get shot forward?
basically, but some alarms have a thingy to make sure it’s not in gear

chris dont forget my s14 is usdm
it dont matter… some s14 do some dont… u just have to check urs if it can… which seems urs can? so? are u planning to make it so that it cant?
overboost car can start in gear clutch not in…
my car can not until i push my clutch down…
and? dunno …
I was just thinking it was a mandatory safety feature. Plus on the Saskatchewan safety inspection sheet it has an area for “neutral safety switch” so I assumed all cars had it… Don’t know how I’m gonna get out of that one…
Thanks for all the help though guys!
I just thought it would be like a mandatory thing, like a shift pattern, which is illegal here for a car to go without… You never know what kind of stupid ppl can drive cars
Both my 95’s had NO interlock.
My 97 DID have the interlock, bit I jumped it out. I don’t leave my car in gear unless I am on a hill anyways so it is safe.
