Car Buying WTF Experiences

I blame Elvis and his gyrating hips.

I have so many of these stories it’s unbelievable. I’ll share a few mediocre ones.

2006 -alpine on cardinal e30m3 ~120k miles rough but rust free, ~10hr drive away. Pics, info, negotiate, etc over the course of a week. I take off work, my buddy takes off work to drive me down. Call m3 owner all morning before I leave, no response. Finally his dad calls me, says someone showed up the night before, finally at 4am loaded the car on his trailer and bought it for $1k more than we agreed upon. I would have gladly paid the $7k that guy paid lol. Went home, got drunk, saw a white e30 wagon on maxbimmer, the rest is history.

2008 -I talk to a dealer in Middletown, I agree to give him my e34 w/throwing stars and suspension, and cash, for his supposedly cherry e36m3/4/5. He’ll meet me there in the morning. I drive all night, salesman doesn’t show, cellphone off all day, and the other sales guy there said "no way he’d made that deal, I need at least another $1k or $2k in addition. Plus the car was super beat, interior pieces missing, noisy vanos, etc. I go home.

2012 -I’m selling a 76ish Triumph Stag 4sp manual v8 on ebay (very rare, only a few brought to the states, more rare in manual, even more rare still with this stupid aluminum v8 w/cooling problems). I sell it on ebay for $4k, my terms are clear: $500 deposit via paypal within 48 hours, balance via cash or certified check in 7 days, must be picked up in (either 14 or 21) days then you pay storage. This guy from Norway wins the auction, ignores my emails for a week, on the 8th day (still no emails) sends me $4k via paypal. I tell him if he wants to use paypal he has to pay for the fees as I’m not taking the hit. He whines, another week goes by, I stop hearing from him. Couple months go by, still hasn’t paid balance nor arranged shipping. He stops answering my e-mails for 5 or 6 months. I have ebay contact him, I get his number through ebay and call him, etc. Countless e-mails with no reply. Ebay says they can’t get a hold of him either and I’ve gone beyond my duties to get in touch with him. I re-list the car, it goes for $4k again, buyer pays, car gets picked up. Couple months later original guy e-mails me, tells me he went back to Iran or Turkey or wherever to attend his father’s funeral and was captured and incarcerated for military crimes 20 or 30 years prior! I tell him the car has been sold, he wants full refund (by now the money has been invested in my business) and I tell him he never even paid me the full amount for the car. Flaked for 2 months before being MIA for 6 months, and if he wants to pay storage I’ll gladly refund the balance. He threatens to sue me a couple times via e-mail, then I never hear from him again.

Hmm sounds like the guy fucked himself on the last one so basically you got close to 8k for that car? I’m pretty sure Paypal fees were a couple Hundo. And why do people buy cars when they have something else going on? That annoys the piss outta me…

I would say you’re the weirdo in this story

Lol dre that last one is awesome!

Lol kinda border line creeper.

There’s nothing borderline about it. Staking out a dude’s house over a <$2k car is way over the border. That’s like hundreds of miles inland into creeptoria. The whole getting high and eating munchines while you do it, well, actually that kind of makes it make sense. You’re obviously a rising star in your field with a bright future ahead of you.

eL Oh eL

 lol

but seriously so many people are retarded today, if i say im buying something i dont fuck around. no deposit or any bullshit, i bring cash that day or the next no matter how far or how much. the exact way i bought my current e46 m. if its gone by the time i get there then fuck it, there plenty other cars out there.

My dad bought his 2013 traverse from chev. I took it to a friends house one day to grab a few people for a dinner party. As I was turning Down the street, I heard 4 ticks from the engine. Then it stalled. At 4,000km, the oil pump failed causing “catastrophic engine failure” spinning 3 main bearings seizing the engine.
We wanted a new vehicle. They offered us a 500 dollar gas card…and the pay half of the repair. We laughed. Basically said ill show you where to put that. Then after they read the actual warrenty , they replaced the motor. After a week if negotiating with chevs head office. $18,000 dollars later in labour and parts it was finished. Paid by the dealer.

Paid by the dealer, or paid by Chev corporate?
Doesn’t make sense that the dealer would have paid for it.

Jam saved $ 114.29 per hour by sitting there, doing nothing, and eating some munchies. Not sure if he was getting high cause he did just say “smoking” so I can go either way on that. Only people who are gonna top that rate of work are being supported by me on welfare. I don’t blame him. People insult your intelligence with bullshit lines thinking they got you outsmarted. If I had that kind of time, I’d have done the same thing. Surprised one of the police didn’t gallop up on their patrol mount to see what he was doing sitting there for 3 1/2 hours.

Corporate sorry.

i dont understand why dealers are such cocks about this stuff… that’s an $18k job for their shop… most dealerships need this kind of work just to keep their technicians working.

also, what did they expect that someone who just bought the car is going to pay out of pocket for that kind of repair even though it’s under warranty?

why even try that?

It was terrible. I worked at a chev dealer and there warranties were terrible. Family’s would come in with trannys blown in there impalas, canyons with knock, and chev didn’t help then but give them 5000 bills. I felt so bad for the family because they couldn’t afford it. People would get very upset and emotional at the service desk. Not yelling but very close to crying and having to get rid of the vehicle because all chev said was we can’t help you. A few times I saw this and lost all respect. I’m sure something couldve been done.

warranty. work. doesn’t. pay.

I went to the Dodge dealer because they had an orange reg cab short bed dayotna truck. It was 4x4 hemi and I wanted to buy it for my wife. I called the dealer and put down a deposit over the phone. Got insurance and left work early to get it. When I got to the dealer they couldn’t find the truck they said, and after looking said they just sold it. I freaked out on them a little and left. They had the truck on their website for like a month after that.

This is why I will never own anything from the Big 3, ever in my lifetime.

I went to go buy a super stock oval track car a few years back. Full car minus motor, dont even remember how much will say $2000. Ad states what transmission it comes with wheels seat extras bla bla bla. Get there first thing i notice is half the car is missing, literally body frame from fire wall up is gone im like ooook. I was like you wanted 2gs for this what kind of shape is the trans in. He says trans is $950 extra, its just a basic t350. And tires and seat are an extra $1000, now tires are spanked flat and cracked. Seat is just just cheapo $100 kirkey bucket which he was claiming was a $1200 seat. So i made him add up everything give me a price, acted super excited got him to knock a hundred off everything was like $4200 or something ridiculous. Told him i had to grab more cash and that id be back in a hour or so. Called him back said i needed till tomorrow, called him tomorrow said i needed till monday, called him monday said i needed till thursday. Needless to say i did this for about a week just to piss him off, he had to roll the car out of the shop and then roll it back it with no front end for me to pick it up. Till i told him he was a sack of shit, but i think i fucked his week up pretty well. Still see him at the track and he usually still gives me a dirty look pretty sure the car is still sitting at his house.

Lol this is great bill!

Had an idiot come and look at the 2 diesels today, only to tell me he can’t buy it/them, bec. he had to sell his car first…I mean jesus, if you don’t want the car, fine, I won’t be offended, but these people are so pathetic…
