Car Purchase

Here is an email i got from an owner of IGSR. This smells/sounds fishy:

I am sorry for this late reply but I have been having some serious problems over here.I just had a surgery 3 days ago.Right now I am in Uk ( had the surgery here) trying to recover so I dont really know when I will be getting home. Yes the price that I want to obtain for the car is US $8.000 (including shipping and insurance charges). The sale is as real as it can be.This car belonged to my son.He died 2 months ago and me and my husband decided to sell this car.It is an US model, registered in USA (my son moved to the States 3 years ago) and has all the services done at the dealership. The vehicle was never crashed, abused or raced. He always garaged it and serviced it, kept very good care of it!.However I can arrange for the paperworks from here and I can contract a shipping company to deliver the vehicle to your address at no expense (the plane ticket to US and back will cost much more then a shipping company and the car needs to be brought home anyway so it wont be such a big deal).
Since the transaction worths a lot of money I think we should make a deal only through Autotrader so that we wont be having any problems.
If you still want the car I will arrange for all the papers to be ready, just needed to be signed by you.I was thinking about it and I realised that you will ask for inspection and everything so I think that 2 days would be more than enough, right?I mean you would have to find somebody to inspect the car for you…
If you decide not to buy for a serious reason (of course after the inspection) the shipping company will take it back ,and the car will go home in Calgary.
I think this is the fastest, safest and most fair solution we can have. The reason for which I cannot wait till I get back home is that I really need some money right away for all my surgery expenses.
I will need your personal details(full name, address, phone number) to forward the info to the shipping company so we can begin , thats in case you still want the car of course.I have also attached some photos with the car and also sent you some details on the car.

Thanks

Michelle

Total scam haha. Thats the same script they always give.

Wow, i wish my mom new about my car as much as this lady does. no way some mom would know that much about her sons car. Died two months ago and already selling his belongings…soo heartless!

The parents would say “passed away”, not just “My son died. Oh well, buy his shit.”

Hahahaha. So true.

good call… :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe the mom would write better too…instead of “me and my hushand” it would be “my husband and I”. Got damn scammers.

How in God’s name is she(?) able to list off all those modifications? I dont think most mom’s would know what coilovers are, let alone half the shit on that list.

Just for the sake of argument… the dead kid could have been planning to sell the car before his death and wrote out all of that. Notice she doesnt mention anything technical in the top blurb. Only below where she signs her name is where it gets out of the mom zone.

I dislike the term “passed away” I don’t think saying dead, died, dying, etc is rude or insensitive, but it’s correct. Maybe the mom thinks the same way.

That being said, this is obviously a scam!

Considering the engine alone would be worth cost to $40,000… I am going to say this is a scam…

On the other hand. I had a personal friend that bought a corvette off a old lady on a farm… Her son bought it back in the day and drove it for 2 weeks. Then something happened to him and the car ended up in a concrete floor barn under a car cover for 30 years… The car had under 1000kms on it… they wanted 3000 for it… he gave them 10 because he felt bad that they didn’t understand that the car was worth huge money. It was sold for well over $100,000… So who knows.

It seems to be a scam, but it’s hard to say. There ARE legitimate reasons to explain most of the concerns in the email.

Personally, I’ve always made it an issue to never buy a car that I can’t physically touch before I buy it. I may miss out on the occasional amazing deal, but I’ve also never paid $8000 for a box that might not have anything in it when it arrives.

or never arrive, and remember guys, i fell for one of those scams when i was selling wheels, this one is TRUE scam from UK, like always, give her ur number and she’ll be calling you ever morning at 4am, i guarantee you, and once you reply you are a scam, nothing back in answer! anyways i fell in for the scam but they got nottin outta me, still cant believe it. :axe:

lol she sent me the transaction. Not sure why she is sending me this BS cause i pretty much told her bring the car to Calgary contact me via email and i’ll come and inspect it personally.

anywayz, i am of the belief that this is a scam.

This is just to good to be true. You should see the pictures.
