My car has been sitting since just before winter, and i want to start it again, what should i do before starting to ensure nothing bad happens?
nothing bad should happen let it idle to warm up and your fine
Call the bomb squad and let them check it first.
I’d do that too.
Open the door and sit inside?
Lol, someone told me to remove the coil pack, and turn it over to prime it, i just wanted to see what other people said
Removing the coilpack would flood your engine, just pull out the fuel pump fuse and crank like 3-4 times for 10seconds to prime.
hmm…did you put fuel stabilizer in the tank before storing it I suppose?
if not, then the fuel will probably be bad or starting to break down, that’ll damage/be bad on your engine and fuel system.
u need someone to stand behind ur exhaust when u start it to ensure theres backpressure. and make sure they are wearing white pants. will be very effective and artistic
nothing would really happen but i guess your friend means to turn it over so that, oil lubricates everything.
Letting the engine turn over 5 or 6 times will NOT cause the engine to flood. If you’re letting it turn over an excessive amount of times without starting, then yes, you will flood it.
Jesse, you should be ok with removing the coil. But do it PROPERLY. Don’t disconnect the cable going from the coil, remove the 2-pin plug from underneath.
Turn it over a couple of times, then plug the 2-pin plug back in from under the coil.
Proceed to start the engine.
Cranking the engine without the coil being plugged in is a proper technique when it comes to checking the amps being cranked for the battery/battery voltage drops.
I learned that from my AST class last Monday
If your worried about starting it, forget going all crazy and removing your coil. Just follow Mr. Hack’s 4 easy steps.
1 - Insert key into ignition
2 - Turn key to the ON position
3 - Wait 4 chimes, (fuel pump is primed)
4 - Start the car
done, and done. Worst case scenario would be your turbo imploding (yes, I said impoding, not exploding) and ripping the space time continuium which in return upsets the molocular balance of earth and creates a small black hole that sucks everything out of your engine bay, and crushes it until there is nothing left but one atom.
But hey, I could be wrong.
^lol
do an oil change
I seriously hate when that happens.
not 2 thread jack but wat can i do other than drain my gas if i didnt put fuel stabiliezer n now i want 2 start up its half tank, can i just fill up the rest of the tank with good gas. What happens 2 the gas when its sitting does it drop in octane? Also i heard if the gas is conceiled it will b fine, gas tanks dont have vents to let the gas evaporate right.
You guys are sissys. Start the damn car.
so how do you expect to prime the fuel system WITHOUT the fuel pump working?
Stop worrying so much. If the car has half a tank left, start her up, drive her until its almost empty, then put in new higher octane.
The new gas is way more concentrated then the old, so when it mixes, you will still have a solid oct. level. Not to mention a full tank.
Realisticly, the worst thing that could possibly happen would be your car running like shit. Until you throw in new gas.
…now if you decide to throw in some diesil … well … thats a whole new level of quantam physics.
Not prime the fuel system, Prime the motor with oil since it probably settled to the bottom, especially if its a turbo.
