Celtic1982citleC's fully built 2006 WRX STI

did the last motor blow on the dyno?

When I had my STi, it went through a decent amount of oil and I didn’t really beat on it much. I was worried at first, but I looked into it and read that it was a “normal” occurrence. WTF. Gotta check that oil every morning :ohnoes .

Someone mentioned why you would buy a Subaru… There’s just something about them. Maybe it’s the hippie in me lol (not even close to a hippie). I still love them regardless of their issues, and if I had the money, I would buy another.

Good luck with the car. Look forward to seeing pics of the engine, body, and dyno ;D .

No, somewhere in the weeks between a ~9Krpm miss shift and a short burst up 87 is had a bout with detonation and #2 piston lost the battle.

Started checking things in today, soda blasting a few misc parts, and checking bearing clearances but got wrapped up in crap today that prevented me from getting much done. I’ll take pictures as I move along with it over the next week or so.

Subaru’s are sweet.

Good luck with the build Justin and Adam! :banana

What oil is he using?
I was using RP 5w30 for a while and noticed I was constantly checking the oil, even before the new motor. Then I switched to Castrol Syntec 5w30 and noticed it wasn’t burning nearly as much. The first time I changed the oil, only like, 3qts came out. When I went to Syntec, around 4.2qts came out. Speaking of which, I need to go to Subaru today and get a new filter.

Spent a little time on the case today and got the bearing clearances checked out and case assembled(sans pistons yet). Slowly but surly. Subaru dicked me out of a coupel orings from the gasket set and had to go dig around the machine shop looking through all mys misc opened gasket sets to find a suby one. ~2 hours later I got what I needed :tong

Some crappy cell phone pictures because my camera officially shit the bed.

God they’re such weird little motors.

Boxer engines are the best :nod

Jay, Justin, and Travis all agree?

True, you got me there.

my wallet hates this motor… my butt dyno loves it though.

Butt dyno, that kills me every time I hear it.

That’s why I picked the 3/S. Keep the stock motor and use a piggyback and make good power.

I completely pwned myself because the mods cost an arm and a leg.

And it weights 3800 lbs. Still a fast car though. :nod

It was never intended to be fast. Just a Grand Touring car. It is heavy but the AWD is what seperates it from other non-AWD cars of similiar weight: LS1/Supra/GTR/etc…

Everything has pros/cons.

Yeah I’m kind of jealous how they make horsepower so much easier. :sad

twin cam > quad cam… :headbang
