On topic: Most of the advice given has been in the right direction… 3.8L is a very strong engine but does have a less than optimal oil gallery set up… Ask me how I know… Chances are the shavings or chunks are from the block not being properly cleaned prior to rebuild. The 3.8 has been known for a few chewed rod bearings as rods 5-6 are last in line for good oil pressure. I would run it til it knocks. Drive it a little hard and vary RPM like a break i process and see if any little knocks pop up. My car took nearly 2 weeks to get to full blown rod knock with a heavy foot and 18psi boost.
