clanking noise from weight transfer?

Well i just recently got coilovers and upgraded to 30mm iron calipers up front and well ever since i finished the swap i 've been hearing a clanking noise, kind of like something just shifts when i hit the brakes. It only happens if the car was just reversed and then put in drive, for example getting out of my driveway and then going down to the street and pressing the brakes. I ve taken apart that side countless times to pinpoint the noise, and i’ve come the conclusion that it can’t be the coilover, or the rims and tires, only thing i c that could be causing the problem is either the ball joint connection in the tension rod or maybe a bushing somewhere, i ve taken the rim off and shaked the suspension in that corner several times and have never been able to get a sound to come, any ideas.

Thanks,
Harmit

check the tension rod bushings, if they’re shot you might have some play up there.

If not, check the lower balljoint.

or it might be the sway bar link… but you probably would have seen that when you pulled the wheel off checking for the sound.

i replaced the ball joints with s14 ball joints when i put on the new brakes.

i replaced the end link bushings when i did the ball joints as well.

sounds exactly like the slider bore in the caliper bracket has worn larger… but Z brakes don’t use sliders… weird.

did the pads fit on the pins tightly when you put it together?

the pins went in with a tiny push, wouldn’t those make a big clanking noise everytime i brake, and would make that big of a noise.

alrite so i still got this noise going on, its gotten considerably louder, i took off my calipers fully checked them, they cannot be the problem, and i checked my coils, they do not bind or anything, leading me to the conlclusion that it is most likely just the tension rod, You agree?

yes, agreed.

if its front to back it’s tension rods.

Yes, it shifts to the front while braking, and shifts to the back while accelerating. If that’s what you mean?

yea thats what he means, might as well grab some pillowball tension rods while your in there.

Yea i was in the process of ordering some of bing’s tension rods.

I used to have the same type of noise from my front end, tried everything to fix it and coudent find the problem…after a long time looking and trying everything i took it to a Nissan shop Simone performance…they found that my front sub frame had come lose! lol if you drift the car …and drive it hard ide check your subframe in the front …it sounds odd but it could be your problem!

Do you feel anything in the floor of the car when it makes the noise ?
