haha, he was waiting for the spot facing away from it, he was asking for it to get stolen!!!
after looking at this pic, he had the perches set up wrong for the one strut…the top perch the spring sits on doesnt have the other perch underneath it locking it in place. i had the whole strut in a vice, the perch tool in place and was hitting the perch tool with a hammer, and all it did was turn the whole strut from the mount. what about heating them up with a propane torch?? wil that affect the gases inside, or ruin the aluminum?
Which perch are you trying to adjust? The bottom one?
put the strut braket in the vice between 2 blocks of wood. You wont have to tighten it much because it will mechanically lock itself in place. Then take your wrenches and crank on the collar.
If its the spring perches then take both of your wrenches orient them opposite each other then put that in the vice and crank on it so that they squeeze together.
thats the way
yea, i know… thanks for not stealing my spot tho…
the next chance i have i’ll let them soak in pb blaster for awhile, then try and break them free.
i dont think i want to try useing a hammer and screwdriver method because that aluminum is pretty soft and i dont want to damage them too much
My recomendation is to soak them in penetrant, and use two spanner wrenches to try and break them free (opposite sides). If that does not work, cut about 90% of the way through them with a dremel cutting disc (dont go all the way, you will hit the threads) then use a lock-cutter on the grove to crack them off. Dont heat them, you take a good chance at a minimum causing internal damage or seal damage, to a maximum of a fire and explosion. Compressed gases+oil= spray aeration. Spray aeration+fire= BAD. And thats assuming you didnt get hit with schrapnel first.
PB Blaster FTW
i heard u might not be able to buy that stuff anymore? something about its not environmentally friendly or something? if thats the case, im gonna be pissed…that stuff is the shit!
Leave it to the hippies to ruin something else.
“But it might hurt the rare Japanese Cock-Beetle!”
SQUISH
Solved.
They still have a bunch of PB Blaster at Pep Boys in OP, I saw it over the weekend.
