I was coming out of a parking lot and my clutch seemed to have snapped on me. I was still able to drive but the peddle was all spongy and I need to put it to the floor to switch gears. (normally needed to put it in about and inch or so.) So, I got home and looked at it thoroughly and found that the peddle bracket (part that connects to the fire wall) half of it snapped off. I took the peddle out but while doing this. I didn’t realize till after that I didn’t need to take off the hydraulic line connecting to reservoir, mean while I also fiddled around with the flat head screw underneath it, but when I was done tighten it. I put everything back together fixed the bracket problem (replaced the welds wit some screws, which im sure isn‘t the problem) and now had to bleed the lines. So I did so, and for a long time, because it always seemed spongy. I’m almost positive I was doing everything correctly but now the peddle is still going to the floor to switch gears which is very homosexual. What did I do wrong? What was that flat head screw thing at the bottom of the reservoir, and how do I adjust my peddle? Or comments…
Wow, where to begin. I dont exactly understand what you were fiddling with.
If the pedal is spongy, you’ve lost hydrolic pressure. Did the reservois level go down?
Oh, I just re-read it. Your clutch is still spngy because you disconnected that line and I’m guessing you didn’t bleed it.
Yea, it does sound a little akward, But I did bleed it. I bled it for a long time. Now over night the peddle and it has become worse. So I’m suposing there is a little leak. There is still that screw under the clutch fluid resivoir that is bothering me. Any ideas on what it does exactly? Should it be tightened all the way or is it some sort of regulator?
Thanks to DFJ the FSM has told me it is the valve stopper. I think i might have been pulling on the piston while tighting the screw. I’ll tare it all apart again today. See what happens. Going to need more brake fluid
YEP, SO i DONNO. My pedal just goes to the floor now. I’ve bled the lines forever. I got nothing. Fucken braket!
It is posible that there is air in the the cylinder, so bench blead??? How do I do that? it was working fine befor the braket went.
Ok to recap, I have now replaced the clutch master and slave cylinders, I have bled the lines for many a long time no air is coming out any more. I press the peddle to the floor and it stays there and can not put it into gear. Any Ideas…. This all happed because of my fixing my freakin pedal braket. Ideas… anything…
bleed it more.
the clutch is an easy system, for the pedal to not return you are not getting any pressure against the slave.
so either
-you have air in the lines
-your slave is faulty and is leaking fluid, leaving you with no pressure
-your clutch pressure plate has collapsed, and its not pushing back against the slave
if you can, bench bleed your clutch. Then hook the line back up, and bleed it again.
close bleeder on slave, press clutch all the way down, open bleeder. repeat.
do you still have that stupid junction box (clutch dampener) before your slave cyl? its mounted on your framerail just before your slave cyl. If so bypass it as that thing is a pain in the ass.
^ forgot about that little thing. joey is right, its the devil. remove it now.
Yea I have that damn devil box, I have contimplated removing it. I supose that is my next step. Then Ill get back at you. Thanks for the replys
check to make sure the fork isnt bent in anyway… if you braket snapped but the fork didnt move cause it was attached to the resivoir… id check to make sure it isnt bent and rubbing
one more thing… consider getting a new Slave Cylinder… shot in the dark but my cavy was the same way untill i replaced the slave and clutch lines…
Thanks guys, I took off the clutch damper and now it works. had a little bit of a ruff time getting it adjusted properly but now its good. thanks.
Glad to hear!
good job brent
that damn box is the biggest pile of bull shit ever.
