Hey,
I just purchased my 240 about 2 weeks ago, when purchased the clutch was gone. Since then I have been helplessly trying to bring the beast back to life.
Problem: The clutch pedal has no return…when depressed there is no pressure and the pedal does not come back up.
Fixes: I initially opened up the reservoir on the master cylinder and noticed that there was no fluid. I added fluid and attempted to bleed the system. While aimlessly searching for the bleeder screw on the slave I noticed it was broken off…so I removed the slave and decided that it should be replaced. With new slave in place and system full of fluid I bled from the slave and from the damper box. No avail the pedal still has no return…however now when I pump the pedal it does create pressure (something which wasnt happening before), when I feel this pressure and release the clutch from the floor it comes up on its own like it is supposed to. But after a few seconds of waiting (allowing system to depressurize) if I push the clutch down it will not come back up.
Next Step: I thought that perhaps the clutch pedal return spreing was the issue, only problem is that to change the spring the master cylinder has to be removed. Once removed I piston into its cylinder and blocked the fluid hole, the piston returns almost immdeiatley, kinda of like the reservoir or some seal had a massive leak. I am unsure, but I believe that this is abnormal, so I will be changing the master cylinder and the clutch return spring.
I need to know if I am overlooking something obvious here, I have a feeling that the issue at hand is not actually the clutch itself but more an issue revolving around the hydraulic system…but I could also be dead wrong. Do you guys reccomend using braided stainless line and hooking the slave right to the master without the little damper box? Is this a common switch?
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
