Yeah as ive said i love my car but theres just too many v6 stangs or GTs runnin around with aftermarket stuff that it all starts to blend after a while. A viper is a much more unique car, youre not gonna see some base v6 viper runnin around lol. They are what they are and there is no mistaking when you see one coming down the road. But yeah I am totally in love with the CCWs. If i somehow end up keeping the cobra, I will pick up a set of CCWs for that this year.
Dan,
Thanks again for the info I appreciate your input. Looks like I will stick with 99/01/02s when im looking around. Oh and sorry to disappoint, but i gotta go red. Yeah i know its the most common but i dont care, i just love red vipers, if im gonna go through with this i will get exaclty what i want As for the whole modding thing, if i get one, its staying fairly stock for a while. Maybe a complete exhaust. And CCWs of course. But performance wise, a gen2 viper = my cobra with a pulley so i am not losing anything there.
Which brings up another point a few of you guys brought up. Why not give the cobra a chance once i get all my stuff on. Well, even though that will make it faster then the viper, it still wont change what the car is and what the overall driving experience feels like. Yeah acceleration will be better but it will still be the same car otherwise.
Now I could put all the stuff on just to give it a shot, but if i know i already dont care that much about going faster, i know its not gonna change my mind. I know that performance wise i would be changing fro ma 120 trap car to a 120 trap car. Thats just fine with me. But why put the parts on the cobra and instantly lose $$$ because the parts are no longer new and have been installed on the car. Also KB Cobras just do not sell for anywhere near what you would think, I am much better off just selling the stuff brand new as it is now, especially since i got alot of the stuff with a good military discount, in alot of cases i bet i will break even on what i paid for my parts. Not to mention I already have buyers lined up for like 3/4 of my stuff. The 03-04 cobra parts market is hot right now and that will work to my advantage.
Choda,
Ok thanks for that groud breaking info. Since you said RT/10s are gay i will only look at GTS cars  Cmon fool, you know i cant have a roof over my head :lolsign:
well you already know my opinion on this…give the car a chance with all the parts on it and then make the decision. i think you’d regret it somewhere down the line knowing that you never got to experience the kb and all the other goodies. plus we need to make a badass cobra compilation remember?
Buy a 99 RT, SC it with a Roe or Paxton, and put down at LEAST 675 to the wheels at 8 PSI on Pump Gas, no problem, no bullshit, no other mods besides T-Bodies and an exhaust.
Buy a 2001/2002, get ABS (a $9000 aftermarket add-on to earlier cars). Either run 6.5 PSI and make around 600 to the wheels with no issues…You can forge the engine with the older style rods/pistons for pretty cheap, and cam it with the earlier 708 cam for a reasonable price too while you are at it… or go balls out and build the engine the way you want, and make the power you want.
Vipers arent obscenely expensive to mod unless you are looking to do things like I am working on. The Early OEM parts are damn strong, and a block built with them can handle 1000 horsepower easily.
All depends what you are looking to do.
A big advantage when dealing with Mods and Vipers is the resale isnt adversely affected in most cases. Nitrous is a deal-killer as always however. But in the case of TT and SC, you can usually get your money back by taking the package off and selling it separately in the case of a Hypereutectic piston car, or just leave it on for forged engine cars- its well known there wont be problems running those levels on the OEM early internals. If you forged a later engine, just show proof you did, and your back in the game as well. even Used packages retain most of their value due to low production.
And dont say you are going to leave it stock. If I had a dollar for every time I have heard that AND the person is now modding their car, I would have 3 Vipers.
Like Bladez said “you know my opinion on this”. An i feel the same way. BUt at least you pick another Type of snake and not a vett . But still take your firends for ride first and then deicde. I dont think what we say will change ur mind if a vipers is what you want then ur going to get it. But u know ur going to miss the sound of your SC SCREAMING at wot (I miss it and its only been 2 months sence its been off the road only 4 more to go dammit)
Derek
P.S.
Dont sell the parts u bought just donate them to a less fortunate person that hasn’t bought those parts yet
Keep the cobra, nicer to drive for extened periods of time, easier to get parts/work on Jada, jada, and still fast. Also I remember you talking about how much you love the drop top.
I really dont think anyone on this thread who has not owned or EXTENSIVELY DRIVEN a Viper has ANY right to comment on their comfort for extended periods. Sitting in one for 1.3 seconds does not count. While I am sure thats seems kind of pompus for me to say… frankly, I am surprised someone else hasnt said it yet. I have taken 1000 mile trips straight-through in both of my cars, they are not uncomfortable at all- and can surely be used as daily drivers over the summer. (I do!) The only thing that IS indeed “difficult” with them is where you can park them. They sort of “Stand out” if you know what I mean, lol. More than a few times I have come out of a bank, store, gas station, etc and had people standing around the car(s). While these people have all been cool, you can be sure the assholes on this planet also notice.
Since this was aimed at me, I got a good forty minutes of driver seat time in one and still think the Cobra is better by far for comfort.
Keep in mind your opinion is biased, anything negative could be seen as a “negative” toward a decision you have made being a previous owner of a car like this. Others on the board offer an outsider decision (when they haven’t owned either).
I totally agree with you about the opinions offered by people that have no experience with either car, however most people never will, and will always judge “the book by it’s cover”.
Stick with the Cobra, Mike. If you are like me at all, you are not going to like not being able to play with the Viper as you said you only wanted to add wheels and an exhaust. With the Cobra, you have plenty of tinkering and modding to do. I would be affraid with the viper as I would not want to ruin anything on it. Besides, the Viper will be eaten alive with a lot of the stuff the Cobra wouldn’t on the street.
EDIT - Popped collar Xander knows shit about cars…
im with everyone, keep the cobra… all the time and effort to get rid of a car that im sure could dominate the other. if xander was smokin vipers over the summer, im sure youll be able to.
