Cold Crack

If you have an existing crack in your windshield, would cold weather make the crack a lot bigger?

Any significant change in temperature will, yeah. The more changes, the bigger the crack, so if you drive outside (-20) and then park in a heated garage (+20) every day then it’s gonna cause a problem.

fix it asap, seriously

i need to get mine fixed too! shitty.

Even starting your car in the morning when its cold can do it, the defrost will even crack it more if your car warms up quickly.

temperature change will have an effect on the glass cracking for sure

If you push on it it will crack also… I did this when i was in High School… It was cool at first to push the crack around. Then you relize that widows for Renaults arn’t cheap. :E

did you have a Fiego ?

You mean Fuego  Then yes I did. Why?

Would rapid temperature change (hereafter referred to as RTC) put chips in the windshield?

since were on the topic of getting these chips fixed… wheres a good cheap place to go to get a rock chip fixed?

got mine done at speedy glass in st. albert.

I parked the Alty in my garage last night, with the factory-fresh windshield still without a single mark. Not even a rock chip yet. Woke up this morning to this.

I have a heated parkade at my office, a non-heated garage at home, and the cold outdoor air in between. You definitely don’t need a chip or an existing crack to suddenly find yourself in the same spot I’m in.

PS - That was taken while I was stopped in traffic on my way to work this morning. By the time I parked at my office, the crack had grown about another 3 inches.

Your window shouldn’t of just cracked. You probably had a small chip close to the rubber seal.

exactly.

Hey, at this point it doesn’t matter what should’ve happened, I’m just saying what did. I sure as hell didn’t buy a new car expecting the windshield to spontaneously crack.

But until I take the microscope to it, what I’m saying is that there’s no immediately visible markings that anything happened. And if it can happen when there are no visible markings, it can sure happen when there are obvious visible markings, like a pre-existing crack.

i have 2 small chips on driver side of the window, and i desperatly have to get them fixed before they crack my whole window!!!

anywho, so wheres a good cheap place to get them fixed?
