I have an 96 audi a6. Since the cold weather has started up, my engine has been running horribly. When it first starts up, there is barely if any throttle response, and the engine sounds like it is skipping until it warms up.
I have a corvette that sounded and ran close to what my audi is doing, but it needed a coil pack. I know it is not a coil pack, because since our weather has warmed up in the last few days (to about 65) the car runs like it is brand new.
My only thoughts so far is maybe something with the air intake, thottle body, or a map sensor
It sounds like you may want to change out your temperature control sensor springs. Or lubricate them. They keep the spark plugs and coils correctly spaced for the outside temperature. Maybe the springs are stuck and not adjusting?
I run synthetic oil in the car so I am not sure if it is that
where would the temperature sensor springs be located?
I feel like the engine is either getting too much gas or not enough, because I think the studder in the engine while it is cold is actually back firing through the air intake.
That car like almost all computer controled vehicles has a Coolent Temp Sensor. Find someone with a scanner, hook it up on a cool morning, watch CTS readings during the first start of the day. It should be close to air temp. That or you coolent is so low that the sensor is not reading properly.
It sounds like its its probably ignition related like everyone else is saying, but I wonder if it has to do with the temp change and the density of the air could be sensor related like you said maybe intake related or maybe o2 sensor? i really have no idea im just guessing. oh and why if your dad just bought a ss turbo did you not steal that to take to school lol whats up wally?
haha larry rogers himself. I have been trying to get my hands on that car- I think I have a line on a bmw so i am trying to work the kinks out of this audi so i can sell it. I am almost certain that it is sensor realated, just because of the sensitivity to the air temperature.
i have cleaned the sensor that is between the air box and the throttle body- i think that is the MAF? and I am not sure what CELs are… where would they be located
it does not seem to be humidity sensitive, just temperature.
CEL is the on-line abreviation for Check Engine Light, which lites up in the dash cluster. Have you tried misting the wires/coilpack with Windex at night to see if you are arching?
