That’s too sad
Bravo to that guy. Many of my own thoughts and feelings but stated in a more eloquent manner than I would.
the psychological contortions people are going through to continue to justify all of this in social settings is really a shame. it makes it so that you can’t have a conversation with some people at all based on how pathetic their ability is to process obvious realities.
You can add me to the list of people you know that got it. Sunday the 21st we were up in the north country visiting family and I got stuffy with a little sore throat. Sore throat with allergies happens all the time because of the nasal drip. My allergies always bother me up there and for a couple days when I get back so I didn’t think much about it. I was checking my temp and it was fine and we came home Monday, Late Wednesday started feeling a lot worse but still no fever. Canceled having people over for thanksgiving though to be safe. By Friday I had a fever, chills, cold sweats, aches, cough, stuffy nose and upset stomach. Basically all the covid list minus the loss of taste. Couldn’t find anywhere with available slots for a rapid test so did a pcr with a 3-5 day turnaround. Friday and Saturday sucked, Saturday overnight my fever broke. Sunday I was just a little stuffy with an annoying cough. Found a place Sunday that did rapid tests and got that done. They do a rapid and a pcr with 24 hour results. Rapid came back negative which I was pretty surprised about. Woke up this morning with email results from the two different lab pcr tests… both positive. Only symptoms I have now are a slight tickle cough and I’m sore from all the coughing, sneezing and puking over the weekend. Fully vax’d Pfizer in April.
My wife meanwhile had a cough for 3 days and is already over it. Kid hasn’t shown any symptoms. None of my family up north is showing any symptoms. All of them are vax’d as well.
Glad you’re feeling okay dude!
A note about the rapid tests. My SIL works on the COVID unit at Mercy, she said that the reason why so many people test negative in the rapid is that it’s identifying proteins that are common in the common cold, flu and COVID. The protein marker that COVID has is actually the only one left after 24-48 hours the test is taken, but the initial testing has so much cold/flu protein that it’s hard to give a positive COVID result unless you are SERIOUSLY sick.
She’s had patients take a PCR test and test positive, show symptoms and then take a rapid test that showed no COVID. The at home rapid tests are worse.
So let me ask you this, now that you know that COVID is just a bad flu…are you going to get the booster?
I’m not. I’ve made my peace that COVID is just a bad flu that I’ll have to deal with every year. I’ve had 4 family members get COVID in the past month and whether they were vaccinated or not, it was a 2-3 day ordeal and then back to normal.
I was really on the fence over the booster before getting covid. Now that I’ve had it, have mostly recovered and have the natural immunity from beating it I’m definitely not getting a booster. Hopefully by the time my current shot/excelsior pass expires April of 2022 the shot based restrictions will have been “shot” down by the courts.
hopefully… but probably not.
this is the rest of our lives now.
Glad you are mostly through it.
By now I think we all have stories from both extremes.
Its a perfect storm, because people that have relatives and friends with health issues are usually very vocal about the challenges they dela with even before covid arrived.
They really do take it personally as people trying to murder their loved ones.
I get it, but get off my lawn already.
I’d probably have done the same if I were you. I got my booster yesterday just to be proactive. After losing 20 days of my life this past spring because of quarantine protocols (I was in between doses for the second quarantining) I didn’t feel like waiting around to test the longevity of Moderna. I really hope to not have to do this again though. Glad to hear you have made it out alright.
Re-read my post and wanted to clarify “definitely not getting the booster”. That’s true, right now, but could change. Immunity, natural from getting covid or vax based is never going to be permanent with a mutating virus. A lot can change 6 months from now.
Thankfully for the US we have the advantage of Israel being several months ahead of us. They were the first to show the vax decrease in effectiveness after 6 months. They also started booster shots sooner than anyone else and the data coming out is showing the boosters are effective. It’s early though so who knows. Thankfully I basically have my booster now and all it really cost me was my long weekend. I figure I have at least 6 months of great immunity to watch and see what happens in Israel and elsewhere.
I do have a funny story. The test site I went to yesterday was at 5363 Main in Williamsville. OMG… don’t go to this one. It’s just an old store, basically all glass. It says drive thru but there is no drive thru. Since it’s all glass you can see all the people standing around waiting. So you walk into this small jeweler sized store with like 20 other people likely infected with Rona and stand around for your turn (even though you have an appointment). They give you both the rapid and the PCR and tell you to hang out with all the other lepers for 5 minutes for your result. So you try and find somewhere that you have a slight chance of breathing clean air and wait. Then they walk over and tell you OUT LOUD “you’re negative, you’ll get your pcr result via email”. I don’t know if the positive results get a different method of being told because everyone that went before me (and myself) came back negative. When I left I was thinking to myself “well, if I didn’t have covid before I probably do now”.
So many hippa violations. SMH
So we are being told how careful we need to be with Covid, how we have to distance our selves… yet a major testing spot requires you to congregate with people who could possibly have covid to wait for covid results back. That’s messed up.
This place just screamed corporate profit machine. I have no doubt it was setup just for the government contracts doing mass testing. One of the two guys doing the testing had a circus carney vibe. The one that tested me was probably a med student. Both of them were wearing just shitty surgical masks, not the N95’s that people who are testing for covid should be. To do the test they have to be within arms length of people all day long, people that are required to drop their masks to get the nasal swab. The whole thing was a shitshow. It’s very likely I gave someone covid while I was there because the effectiveness of the surgical mask I was wearing is questionable at best. The fact that the other people there were in surgical or even shittier cloth masks makes it more likely. If Erie County contract tracers eventually call me I’ll be giving them an earful about that place.
My other test was at rite aid. They make you use the drive thru. They send the test kit through tube and talk you through self administering the test. They also have a little poster next to the drive through with instructions and visuals. They specifically tell you not to bring anyone else in the car. You open the little kit and there is a swab and a vial with a screw on top. Stick the thing up a nostril, spin it for 15 seconds, then repeat on the other nostril. Seal it in the vial and send it back through the tube. I never came in contact with anyone there or even got out of my car.
after reading all of this, the same of which is going on up here, it reinforces how the new money is being printed and shoved into the economy to cover all of the staffing and rents for clown-world. but it shows up in GDP and the employment data so meh i guess right?
I can’t go into a fucking grocery store without a mask but thousands can groove it up at a giant disco party without. Yeah, I need to be following the rules.
Vaccinated people can’t get or spread it man! Oh wait….
