My guess is the people that are spot checking have access to the database. There’s definitely an API because the Excelsior Pass app is verifying your data in real time so it would be easy for NYS to make a verification app for state/county people that hits that same API.
I think you guys are going a little overboard on the “well what if’s” here. Between the risk of getting caught and the technical know how to create a fake I’m sure the vast majority of anti-vax Bills fans are just going to stay home. Will some people get away with it? Sure, just like some people get away with bringing a little too much booze across from duty free, but the risk vs reward thing will stop the majority.
I’m not signing up for any app, I have a picture of my card on my phone and that’s it. If I go somewhere that needs proof and they accept that picture, cool. If they need the stupid piece of paper, I’ll bring it if it’s really a place I want to be at it, but if it’s more than that…fuck that shit I’ll stay home. I’ve turned around a few places already that wanted excelsior or nothing else. It is what it is.
That’s a weird hill to make a stand on but you do you. I got the app because it’s easier than keeping that piece of paper on me that’s going to get lost/destroyed. I stopped giving a shit about tracking because I carry around a little always on GPS enabled device with a camera and microphone everywhere I go. If the government wants to know where I am or where I’ve been, they already know. I get if you want to make a stand against the whole “SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS” thing and refuse to go anywhere that requires it, but not sure why you’d show the papers but not the app that just makes showing the papers more convenient for you.
Here’s what I dont get…
Normally it would seem that the slightest global disturbance would cause at least some downturn in the economy. Jobs lost, stocks stagnant, etc.
But here we are with prices skyrocketing, lead times lengthening, jobs unable to be filled and were just humming along at a million miles an hour. In normal times a restaurant would be mortified to lose a customer like @drvnkd over something so trivial.
Is that how we felt about the housing market before 2008? I feel like I’m watching the Big Short over and over…
Right now, I don’t think restaurants really care about the small percentage that is going to walk out over a mask requirement. Every place I’ve been to eat for the past several months has staffing shortages and long waits for food/tables/service. When you can’t keep up with the customers you have letting one walk away over a mask is not really a problem.
I know guys that cannot be quickly replaced that say they will quit before getting forced into the shot. Not anti-vaxers at all. Just anti-mandaters.
You cannot get anyone off the street that knows how to make shit work until they have had a year or 4 of experience and mentorship.
I am definitely not a target demographic for restaurants. Had they given me a mask i would have sat at the bar tying to keep my total bill less than $35 and end up with 2 beers i have never had before.
I was just asked for a vaccine passport to enter fucking CORA (Canadian Denny’s) and don’t have one, so had to show them the vax card and NYS drivers license.
