Buy jdm and rust proof the fuck out of it. Buy a shit hatch and daily beat it in the winter
im honestly loving all this, im taking it all in. i’ve done body work before. if i could find one that needs body work for 500 i’d be happy as shit if i can find one that doesn’t run i’d be happy i enjoy working on cars and doing it wouldnt be an issue. so whats the deal can i find one in those states for that price?
yeah watch out for ones that have been repainted. someone smashed the shit out of my car and covered it up then sold the car to me for an unfair price back in the day. 4 years later im still fixing the spots they fucked up. If you buy something with rust watch out cos the body work could cost more then a cleaner car even if you do it your self.
dont fuck with rust buckets you’ll be chasing rust for yrs. you want serious advise , dont buy a 240sx buy a 180sx or silvia at least then you have a few yrs before you have to fuck with rust.
Don’t let the old guys scare you off. If you really wanna wrench on something and somewhat restore it. Cut your spending at a grand. Some cars are worse then others. Just look at what you’re capable at doing. If you’ve got a welder or what not and wanna attempt rails. Give it a shot. But beware the floors rot like hell to. Give the car a good look. If it doesn’t look good means there’s a lot more issues that you won’t see till its in the air. These cars aren’t something that you can just buy and drive. Most of the time they will need frame rail work just to pass safety unless you have a good friend that’s a licensed tech.
before you find out what a car is worth, find out what YOU are capable of doing to the car. if you can weld, but not like a few shitty tacks but can actually lay a nice solid bead it opens a lot of possibilities. then ask yourself what kind of space and tools you have to work on the car. i have been through 30+ cars in the last five years, and yeah fixing old shitty ones is fun, but its not very economical usually. if you want a 240 for the first time, go out and buy a “winter beater” for 1000 bucks. 1500 tops. beat the fuck out of it and decide if its something you want. if it is, save your money and buy a clean solid one when you can afford it. starting off building a rough one is going to cost 10 times more in the long run, most of the time. and it wont be as nice. it will have character, but wont be clean…and youll never get your money back. depends what you want the car for.

-535252. if it wont pass a safety because of frame work, dont drive it. who cares if the horn doesnt work, but make sure the frame, floor where your seat is, brakes, and front end is safe. unless you want to die a horrible death. or kill someone else.
i can weld and i have alot of tools for someone who works on cars in his spare time, i’ve done the floor in my protege, i boxed the frame rails on my protege and i re did the front subframe also. took me about a month total.
