Yes and no. His car had a TON of miles on it. I realize that a TDI can go a long time, but that was a heck of a lot of miles regardless. I worked in the car business for way too long to think that miles are arbitrary for these or any other car ever sold.
Lets be realistic. If you were buying a used TDI with over 300,000 miles, would you pay $6000 for it? Would you even pay the $4900 the insurance company is offering? I sure as hell wouldn’t
Also, is TDI club a fair place to get a price for the car? The sellers have an inflated price for the car. Just like 240SXs and E30s on this site.
by the way passenger power/heated seat was trashed in the accident. or I would swap it.
I don’t care what the comparison is, i want the car i had prior to the accident not a lesser one. and i want my life to go back to the way it was prior to the accident… I wasn’t asking for drama only advise for dealing with insurance and or suggestions on finding a replacement car.
if you think you can get significantly more than what the ins co is offering you then you can fight it. but you have to pay for an independent appraisal, the referee/umpire/arbitrator, and your rental might run out in the mean time…
sorry to tell you, but it’s not going to happen. Like everyone said the TDI prices are inflated and your car had a lot of miles. Just take the $4900 and run. You will not get any more money out of them for that car. Sorry.
Ok there you go. Buy a one way ticket to Florida (~200), buy the car for ~6000. What is that 1800 miles most? Getting 50mpg that is 36 gal of diesel say at $3.25 a gal (~125).
Nice car, lower miles, Total less then ~7000 after taxes.
So I guess the 5K is a little low, maybe milk them for 6?
I don’t blame you for trying to get more money out of them, I would be doing the same thing. At the end of the day I would be content with $5k for a 300k tdi.
If you were to sell your TDI you would not get near $5k for it, these cars drop in value a lot after the 200k mark
I know there are no replacement vehicles in my local market area as defined by NY insurance burro… (within 100 miles) same year make model miles and options (well theres one its in Rochester 8k)
would I take 6k yes. because your right no one would a buy a well maintained LOADED jetta GLS TDI with all maintenance records… for 6k well i would but thats not here or there.
But in the end of this all will my car still be a work car, with a busted passenger chair and scratches down the side. that now doesn’t owe me a dime… and I walk away with a 4.5k check sure as long as i don’t have any problems registering the car. and if thats the case hopfully im in my new house with a 3 car garage and can swap everything over to a newer shell.
Ill update the post if your interested as i go…
Edit:
I guess the point of the thread was to see if anyone has received what NADA would consider fair for there car or if everyone accepts half for there totaled car? i guess you would? I was looking for any advice for getting more money. I think if ANYONE on this board was in my shoes they would do the same thing. look for help in combating a company like this. so I guess i should change the title to help me rob Progressive?
I am with you on this, but my main argument is not between a GL/GLS like Walker keeps regurgitating, its whether or not the car has been upkept.
There have been runaway engines at under 100k, if the car has not been taken care of, the 100k car is no better than the 300k car.
If you pick up a car for under $5k, and it needs >$1000 of work to be in good running order, then I would say thats a little more of a stretch than you bargained for, hopefully this all works out for you Mike…
So is your car worth NADA? If not how far off would you put it? Half? Would you trade your car with one like yours right now that you had no history over?
i would have no problem trading vehicles for another vehicle with the same milage and same year. the type of vehicle i drive isnt littered with many known issues.
the fact is they are going to pay for you to get a car with almost half the miles. dont be such a bitch and just buy another tdi. i mean fuck i sold my very well maintained tdi with 140k for 6k and that was last march.
I sold my “adequately” maintained GL with 170k for $7500 last May. Although the market has fallen out from underneath them since fuel has dropped in price. I still think that $6000 would be more appropriate.
