Decreasing the ingress/egress of my daily driver to lotus proportions

i probably do less dumb shit than you on a daily basis… i just find humor in posting it. Finding humor in ones flaws is like, real grown up or some shit.

Hypothetically speaking, if my personality was in your body/life, you’d see alot of turbo LS1 post’s like this:

  • I suckle off my father’s teat
  • I can’t seem to get laid
  • Why am i so ugly?
  • Spelling help please!
  • etc.

I dunno. If you can’t laugh at your misfortunes, then i you’ll never be happy. Enjoy your deathtrap, ladies.

This lesbian bar doesn’t have a fire exit.

I know its kinda late but itstead of having the bar goin down the piller and strait to the floor you should of had someone bend it to go udner the dash then to the floor. Here is a pic i drew up. Its not the best pic but u will get what im saying.

haha. the typical newman responce when u have nothing to say. 1st off, you know nothing about me. u have no idea how my car is financed. you have no idea about my personal life. cuz unlike you, i dont keep an online diary about all the girls i hook up with. i keep my shit private.

if your attacking my spelling, which isnt all that bad, i’d say thats a pretty far reach pal. your saying im ugly?..lol. im gona feel bad about myself now because some attention whore who dresses up in FEMALE CLOTHING said im ugly. wow.

im done in this thread, sorry for going OT.
EVERYBODY’S ATTENTION BACK TO NEWMAN, QUICK

stay on topic people.
consider everyone on the forum warned

they make a cage like that. The cusco WRX cage is made like that. However, in a top loaded situation, it’s only another weak link… The door bars would make that no easier to get in. The cusco cage does not have welded door bars, or a harness bar, or a cross brace. It also bolts togther with pin joints that allow flex. The autopower has slip fit joints that fully constrain the cage in all six DOF. In order to deform the cusco cage you would need only to overcome the static friction of the joints. In order to deform the autopower cage, you would need to shear grade 8 hardware.

^ thats great info newman, thanks…i was planning on making my own cage this summer and you just saved my life, cause my plan was to bend the bars around the dash like that.

haha, yes. if you bend around the dash you will most certainly DIE. :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, yeah…im gonna mock it up with PVC and bend it here at school in the architecture shop. autopower makes a “cage” but its only a single bar over your head behind the seats with a diagonal cross brace, two braces to the rear of the hatch floor, and the harness tube. thats not enough cage for me and what i intend to use the car for eventually.

If i could make a sugestion… Using PVC will be a nightmare… It seems like a good idea at first but after seeing the autopower cage, there are a TON of subtle bends in it. It wraps around everything in the car so beautifully. I am REALLY impressed that it fits so nicely into something that could have so many stacked tolerances. If i were you, i would buy the autopower cage and add the front two points and doorbars… Really. You will save yourself a TON of time. I know you like DIY. So do i. I was planning on making my own cage. I can tell you that buying it was a much better decision.

hmm, maybe i will do that…how would you suggest going about adding the other bars? you may PM if it would suit the question better.

EDIT: here is the autopower cage for the focus $800

Adding the other bars would be easy. the only difference between the autopower 4pt main hoop and 6 point main hoop is 4 pipe stubs sticking towards the front of the car. These pipe stubs are the same size as the rest of the tubing for the cage. The door bars but up to these perfectly flush, as though the cage was built in one piece, inside the car, then cut apart to be removed. These joints are then held together by tubes that slip snugly over the joint and are then bolted into the car. The whole cage is built that way.

In order to accomplish what you require, i would install the rear 4 points. Build the front 2 points, the door bars and the windshield bar, then cut them apart, remove and finish weld, then reinstall and drill with slip fit connectors.

do you have any pics of the process of installing yours so i could understand that better?

sorry, no. but anytime you want to check it out, you’re more than welcome to.

^ you owe me a ride anyway so i can check out those coilovers lol.

Wait a sec.
