Did Apple Screw the Pooch?

I don’t think you understand what fragmentation is. Everything LZ posted is correct. You’re talking about having to program for different devices that support different features. That’s not fragmention… that’s called basic programming.

Android is an OS, not a device. When you write code for an app that you intend to place on the Play Store, that is made available to all devices running Android.

ive had an iphone since a 4s (which I still use daily as an ipod) had an android (htc evo), blackberry, and lots of palms before that.

like @JayS said, it just works. I have a 5s now and its solid still. I’ll probably do what I always do and go get a 6 for cheap or free with a new contract when the 6s comes out

they work. I like podcasts. fuck stitcher.

I have an iPhone and can’t find any defragmentation apps in the appstore. What gives?

Look found one! Haha

I have a Galaxy s5 and it’s perfect, no issues or anything.

This video says everything about what I think. Jimmy Kimmel

Fucking provider bloat.

Doesn’t Nexus get the first updates since its pure Android?

I have a Nexus 7 tablet. Never minded it. Just wasn’t a Google apps fan.

unsubsidized plans & unlocked phones since '00 here

Ya I can’t wait for the new Apple program. Didn’t want to get into another contract for the 6S so decided to wait and going subsidized under the Apple program for the 7.

sure about that?

I will actually wait for it to come out and people in the digital design world ie animation/game studios start using it before I start reading into reviews. If they are able to replicate the sensitivity etc that the Wacom has then props to them. I don’t have a Cintiq but I do have a Wacom pen tablet for my pc and it’s quite amazing. If I’m proven wrong once it comes out, that’s actually better because Wacom will have something to compete with.

There’s also the question of software support.

My greatest issue is with people and then ultimately programs like NPR who will later talk about it as if Apple invented the pen tablet for digital artists the same way they talk about Apple inventing the smartphone.

Everyone is trying to be friends with Apple. Hell, Adobe was a company Jobs wanted to crush with their Flash platform and never got along is now suddenly a partner. Apple being tied into major studios like Pixar and Disney I would also believe they didn’t test this on some low budget animator.

People do misjudge Apple thinking they invented something but their whole history is not inventing things really as much as how they invent the differ net ways people use it. Hell, the iPad was Apple’s second attempt at a tablet. Smartphones were around but until Apple came around with theirs, the adoption of the smartphone exploded into the consumer space. I remember having a Palm Treo and the only people that had one were business people or douchebags and no one understood why you would want email or internet on your phone. Now look at the market space.

iPads already have strong software support for this type of thing.

Can you imagine how awesome that app would be with the iPad Pro and Pencil.

Apple didn’t build anything that didn’t already exist here, but I think Wacom is going to be seeing this setup as a SIGNIFICANT competitor.

haters always hate the best stuff.

tesla didn’t invent the electric car - who gives an F if its still the best one.

I agree that what Apple is good at, is taking some existing tech and repackaging it in a way so it becomes the hip item to have. Their marketing ability is amazing imo. I had a Treo as well, and understand what you are saying.

What I meant by software support was the software that some people use on PC for 3d animation, matte painting etc. There’s tons of it out there now with many different plug-ins etc and if Apple can get them supported , it would only solidify it’s share of that market segment. The point is this is not radically different as s9me make it out to be. Judging by that article, if Wacom works on things like lagg, screen, and the stylus, the new iPad would look almost the same. Hey you never know, when it comes out, I may like it enough to get one myself. I agree that it may become a significant competitor which will only force everybody else to improve their products or lose their business.

I love how every time you don’t agree with something, you become a hater? “Best stuff” is a matter of perception. Tesla is the only “real” electric car manufacturer, or was originally, that made cars that people would actually buy. It’s a bad comparison, until the Tesla came out, it seemed like the electric/hybrids out there were made to deliberately look, act and feel ugly. The original iPhone came out when the tech sector advanced enough to allow that design and there was enough company following with the ipod. the new iPad Pro is coming out in a market that is saturated with tablets, and has a few geared towards the artists. Again a totally different case from the Tesla story

Tesla is the perfect comparison. Yeah, there were other touchscreen smartphones before the iPhone, but they were garbage. It took Apple showing the industry how it should be done for people to want them, much like it took Tesla showing the automotive industry how an electric car should be done for the auto industry to get on board.

It’s easy to say, “There were smartphone before the iPhone, Apple didn’t invent anything” while forgetting just how shitty smartphones were back then:

Yeah, you could get email and Internet on those other devices but unless you were a corporate type who really needed to you wouldn’t bother because it was terrible. Apple released the iPhone and started the revolution where people abandoned their PCs because they’d rather use their phone.

Speaking of “you didn’t invent that”…

Fan boy

If I was a fanboy I never would have bought the S3 and used it for 2 years.

I wish Apple would make a limited edition iPhone 6f, flip phone. Just to piss off the haters.

Tesla is most definitely not a good comparison because Apple already had many products out and had a large following with the iPod which was already 6 years in production. Apple also timed it well enough where mobile technology was far along enough for something like this to happen. A Tesla type of vehicle could have been developed a lot earlier. The car manufacturers didn’t believe that it was impossible to make one or any of that, they just had no desire to do so. Every time they showed interest, the oil lobby got in the way. Not to mention that Apple already had enough finances, an OS etc to make it happen. Without government help and a lot of borrowed money, Tesla would have gone under long ago.

I fail to see how not jumping on the Apple bandwagon translates to being an Apple hater. I don’t diss Apple, I believe it’s a great American company that looks at available trends and tech, and knows how to put everything together and make a hip and trendy product. They know how to create a following. However, the notion that all that they have come up with is a first in the industry and without that we would never be where we are today is dumb. This is not the case of the Apple I or Macintosh.
