Did Apple Screw the Pooch?

There is a lot to say about taking a technology (even if you didn’t invent it), improving upon it and/or convincing the masses to adopt it.

Yea Google hasn’t really done anything useful there were search engines before.

Facebook ripped off Friendster

etc

I don’t think there is any question that Apple changed the industry with the first iPhone. Since then people expect them to innovate but instead, as with this latest announcement, they seem to just replicate even if they’re improving things incrementally. They’re just not as disruptive as they once were.

But maybe the phone industry only has one more major evolution to make and it’s the elimination of the handheld device entirely.

Innovation is coming…

iOS 9 reached 20% adoption in under 3 days. Lollipop took 9 months.

I compare iOS 9 to how Android was 5 years ago…

this stuff makes me lol so hard that something so stupid create TEAMS out of people that can’t admit the other team does anything good or cool.

i admit when theres android or whatever companies things are kinda cool or when they have some neat new feature ive never heard of before.

but those OTHER people would rather DIE than just admit that apple makes the best products.

its like non apple users just have to TRICK themselves into finding a way to justify that a product that looks the best, performs the best, sells the best, has the most support from companies that make apps and whatnot, is somehow not the best(??) because some feature came out first last year on a garbage phone no one wants?

so weird.

brb. posting this from my calculator because my android samsung htc google note apple ripoff froze and I’m taking the battery out or something goofy.

It’s just like anything else. You have people who say Ford is the best car in the world and refuse to drive anything but Fords. Then you have people who have zero brand loyalty, have driven and owned all kinds of different brands, and will say that the car they’re driving right now was the best for them because it did XYZ better than the make/model they owned before.

With Android you have a lot of “OMG, APPLE SUCKS SO BAD, ANDROID IS MY ONE ONLY TRUE LORD AND SAVIOR” but they have never actually owned an Apple product. That’s the part I find hilarious. I group them the same as the backwoods rednecks who have never owned anything but Ferd F-teenthousands so the Ferd f-teenthousand must be the best truck ever made.

We’re all (mostly) adults here! This is an argument we had when we were kids. These things are matters of opinion, not fact. There are plenty of people who will say that Linux based OS’s are the best, and you cannot make a sensible adult case to the contrary. You mention things I’ve never had to experience with my phones btw, the only time i had to switch one was when I did something like drop it in a bucket of water or crack from falling.

I’ve had Apple products and I didn’t like them. When the Ipod came out, that was the craze. Sure for most people it was great because it was their foray into technology. I already had a PC with gigabytes worth of Music and the idea that I cant just plug in my mp3 player and drag and drop songs onto it was stupid to me. Even though they weren’t as sleek or anything, at that time I would rather go with a Zune or other mp3 player, because it fit my needs.

When you have all these Apple products come out and the herd says “OMG teh best! Never been done before, How radical! Game Changing, Dawn of a new age” and if I point out that it’s not really so, that makes me a hater? That’s childish! It’s the same argument if you were saying that BMW is actually “The Ultimate Driving Machine”, claiming that it’s the best and anybody that doesn’t agree with you is a hater and “lol omg you drive dat ricer fartcan? Hope it makes it to the next shop before it brakes ZOMG!!!”. I’ll be blunt, that’s a very dumb world view.

How many playlists have people shared on their android phones from touching them?!

One of my developer buddies bought a Moto G just for testing some of his android app dev (he’s an iphone guy). Just had this convo with him via gChat.

Him: so i bought a Moto G for mobile dev cause I gave my mom the 1st gen I got from my last job.got it 3 weeks ago.
last week I popped in a SIM card, gets stuck coming out, gold pin breaks off.
dead phone.
I had to go 3 rounds with Motorola tech support in El Salvador.
I swear every cent I give to apple for my iPhone is worth it.
one, they’ve managed to figure out how not to fuck up the SIM contact points.
two, if something happens I’m one trip away from getting it fixed.
Motorola?
I get to send it to texas and I’ll get it back in a week or two.
imagine that was my actual phone.

me:
this was a new phone?

him: brand new
fuck that shit.

me: pretty ridiculous they can’t at least do an advance ship 2 day air

him: oh, they can do advance ship, but for $25.

me: so we fucked up, but we’d like to make $25 more just to help you out

That’s almost as funny as the Samsung S-Pen gets stuck when you put it in backwards.

There’s no question that a company has a lot more power and ease when it practically controls the particular market segment. Take a look at China and the USA. If the Chinese want to do something about infrastructure or Healthcare, the military or environmental regs, they just do it. On the other extreme end of the spectrum you have incompetent Washington that can’t get anything done no matter how sensible it should be. Doesn’t mean I want to live there instead of here

Aparently Apple gave some new iPad Pro’s to Disney for animators to play with. Seems like it took off pretty well as the video had them mentioning buying them for studio use.
