Disassembling head and tail lights

I am doing some work on my head and tail lights and I wanted to separate the lenses from the housings. I have read in the past that you can put them in the oven at like 150-190* to soften up the adhesive then they just peal right off. Could anyone give me detailed instruction on how to disassemble then re-assemble my head and tail lights, please?

Correct on the oven technique, it only takes maybe 1-2 minutes but once the silicon sealant is warm, you can take a flat head screw driver and pry open the housing. To put it back together you just want to make sure you have a good seal so I recommend buying RTV sealant (I think that’s what it’s called) and bead around the edges, push both pieces together and them BAM youre done.

Are these lexan or glass headlights btw? Make/model?

They are whatever plastic GM uses. They are off a 99 Z28.

Okay, just have to be careful with the lexan cuz it may crack when prying open, you should be okay though. Make sure to remove all tabs and screws before heating though, not to mention bulbs lol

I assume that’s not the same type of RTV one uses for valve covers and such?
