DMCC 2009

I believe someone mentioned in the summer that there wouldnt be an amateur competition at the toronto event anymore. It apparently eats up too much time so they’ve cut it out completely.

last year they cut the track layout down cuz most amateur ppl were spinning? and scared they wuld hit the water barriers? the whole event was nice none the less …

bing must be there. his couch and booth is the BEST all rest of the booths sucked . no offense. ppl paid to go to event just to pickup items from bing aswell lol…

can anyone back this up? Kendrick??

Hey guys, there is no confirmation that we will or will not have amateur event in Toronto. It basically all comes down to cost and time. We are shifting to a 2 day format dedicated to the pros…frankly running 2 competitions in 2 days is hell a lotta work for me, im not able to focus on the little details needed to produce a solid show for DMCC.

I dont see a problem if:

  1. more time
  2. more money

If someone wants to step forward and pay for an extra day at downsview I can find a way to piggyback on the DMCC weekend

I wish Ontario had more tracks to offer. I would like to go to more of these but out of the province is too far.

how about shannonville? its kinda ghetto but its got the right ingredients for a good event though, also what are the pre requesets or needs to compete in the Am comps?

I ahve an AM rulebook setup already…just need to figure out how many people would be interested in running a full season. I’ll put my time in where I can but are looking for solid groups to help make this happen.

i would be interested, although i am fairly new to drifting, just post up the rulebook ill check it out and let some of my friends know who are experienced, also if you could include how much it woudl cost, or a rough estimate that would be great

You know all of DRIFT1 will be down for am,

ontario has tons of tracks! kawortha speedway, sunset speedway, barrie speedway, flambroo speedway, cayuga speedeay (realy high speed) etc… you just have to get out to them.

shannonville is ok but not so good for spectators. its a good track to learn on because there are no walls, and a good viriety of fast and slow corners. it doesnt have alot of transition tho.

hey Kdog, obviously time is an issue but i will do what i can to help the scene in ontario…

Justin

what about Wayne and Alex (D-ops)?

imho there has to be an amatuer… i broke down the math before, it pays for itself… there are dozens upon dozens of drivers and spectators that only come for the amatuer.

hey bing

not really… most track days drift ops is loosing money for practise days and pro am

yes i know, i run track days too… my point is that having the amatuer at the DMCC pro event makes positive dollars… it doesnt cost any more other than the time to coordinate and considering the entry fees and the amount of additional spectators it’s a $10k addition.

truest statement on the forum.

If there is no amature at DMCC Toronto its a huge step in the wrong direction, i understand its a pro event but over half the people that come are there to support the amature driver they know… if anything it needs to come back better then last year…ex: running the compitition before the gates even open… or maybe along side the pro comp…but what do i know.

I think it’s pretty sad to see the sport only recognized sponsored professional drivers and move further away from the grassroot drifters.

As a used-to-be drifter, there’s less and less motivation to step up my game because I know I won’t be able to compete with professionals in terms of budget.

I know a good amount of guys who aren’t professional that could give pros a run for their money.

Hopefully if I ever re-enter the scene, it’d be pretty awesome to see by that time an event that would have a bunch of the most elite grassroot drifters to go against the top professional sponsored drifters in DMCC.

That would be an event that would be OFF THE MUTHAFUKN HOOOOOOK!

ps: or a bunch of non-sponsored drifters vs full out sponsored ones

i agree not having a pro-am event at downsview would be a step in the wrong direction. if we want this sport to grow in this province we need to step it up.

I do see alot of spectators at downsview that are suporting the local guys… including pro drivers.

i can see were Kdog is coming from, if we all can see that we need an event than lets make up a program. no sence in bitching about it. Kdog is asking for help, all he is getting is negativity. i do agree that we need the pro-am event, so help kendrick out.

i think a battle of the pro-ams Vs pros would be Fing Awsome! thats is a realy good idea.
Kdog can we try and set this up!

Most of the pro drivers dont have major sponcers. There are definatly noooooo free rides!
i could go on a rant about it but i wont. if anyone wants to listen?

So basicaly this sport needs all of our help!

thats what i mean, why cant the D-ops guys work on the amatuer ?

I definitely wouldn’t mind helping out, but there’s no sense of trying to help something that has no plan of direction.

so we need to make a plan and direction, cant sit around for somone else what to do, and how to do it.
