DMCC 2009

DMCC vs Drift OPS (enter location here)
I’m sure most drivers would come to this little EXPO,
Get the sponsors to rent the track and charge 80-100 for the track day to the drivers there easy money, (really I have no idea how to run a track day i just attend them) so this might be a waisted comment but I tried…

DRIFT POSSE

good idea, but u need to find sponsors that are interested in advertising.

the idea and planning for DMCC and CSCS did just pop out of the sky and people started running it. it took a good group of people alot of time and dedication. tons and tons of ideas thrown around. then a solid plan will start to come together. i understand people want to help but… it seems people just want a series already organized for them.

lets start up a drift committee.
id love to help out… but money wise its tight paying for a house and what not.
but sponsors is a good idea tho. i just think it would be hard,do to the economic state we are in right now.

also just some ideas that might help out…
try asking autotrader.ca
local dealerships

just some ideas

i think one of Kendricks main concern is commitment from us LOCAL drivers. because a lot of us are known as flop shows and that can really set back his plans and money. so if there were say to be a pool of people who are down to compete and we can get a list of them and some money paid out to the event ahead of time to show commitment then maybe there will be more interest for him to run it.

^ this is true

good idea…

we need a TRUE drift community.

no matter what car you have, you can be a part of it.

or even drift clubs…just to get team competitions on the rise.

I think that’s where the money is at, not literally.

People want to see teams battle teams, not individuals tandem with each other. That stuff is boring.

Amateur team battles would be pretty sick imo.

MSC style!!!

hohoho i like where this is going. drift posse is like a team . s1dc is a team. drift1 is a team. and form a few more will be fun and competitive.

intialD stylezzz. i can get a team up and running
team unicorn slide or something along those lines.

to be honest, even tho Initial D is somewhat lame but we ALL started drifting because of it.

the concept is pretty cool and I think it could work.

#1 problem is we need a close track so more teams can form and compete.

Downsview would be the best place but I’m not sure what rules they require inorder to rent that place. Are barriers a must? Can we use tire barriers? etc etc

Once we find a closer track, I think it could all come into play.

alot of tracks are poo pooing driftn tho thats one of the biggest problems

that’s not entirely true.

TMP is awesome for drifting if it was the whole track, but they only allow 1 car at a time

SMP is awesome nelson/fabi or the whole track, but it’s 2hrs away.

i dont mind tmp i went out to driftnation drift days
smp is a lil far for me but if i had a trailor for the extra security. id slide it

keep the ideas coming boys…I like what I see. As for downsview I can tell you it wont be able to be rented until at least August, even if you could get a time slot there’s a lot of legal and insurance issues. Expect to pay close to $30k just for barriers and ambulance service which is required by Downsview. That does not include any rental fees, insurance for the lot.

Downsview is a great place, can be made spectator friendly with $$$ but not worth a practice or exhibition event without all the bells and whistles. Go big or go home with downsview.

Shannonville is still a great place, although not as spectator friendly all the way around the track you can utilize good training sessions, low key enough that you can get a rental on a group buy.

Kawartha Downs is also worth looking into. Some of you might have palyed around when pankew and his crew did drift free fridays. Great idea and seemed to be a cool formula but we need more people pitching in ideas and help to keep Ontario alive.

Things are a lot different and unfortunately we are a little handicapped compared to west and quebec. We need to get the die hards out helping the newbies and growing the next generation of drifters.

Our hardest battle now is finding a home venue close enough and spectator friendly to get the ball rolling

even if we could find a parking lot or something like that to slide around, hold mini comps etc.

like dx1 at the poweraid center, i think it was???

You know, this may be a good consideration.
Kendrick, I’m sure you’d have more initiative than anyone else here, maybe you could consider Woodbine Casino.

The east end of it has a HUGE paved parking lot, only filled maybe once a year, the rest of the time its empty. Woodbine casino, is never filled enough, other than they’re main events like the Queensway Horse Race.

I’ve lived down the street for years, and have seen numerous public events held in that parking lot. There was even a huge circus event there last year, and the year before that I believe.

Many might be thinking about noise, and I can tell you personally, that the lights from the casino are way more a disturbance than anything else. I mean every time someone leaves my house at dark hours, they’re normally confused as to why it still looks as if its noon. Noise still shouldn’t be an issue, simply because of the fact that not only is woodbine surrounded by both the 427, but the 409, and even Highway 27. Finally, we’ve got the most annoying noise you can think of…the Airport. From the day of moving into this house we’ve had thin aluminum made blinds that would clank together ever so gently when a plane would venture over the houses to the airport. Obviously you get use to it, but the vibrations and noise are a huge factor over here, every 5 minutes, sometimes less.

Basically what I’m saying is, this is a great idea to hold an event such as ours, maybe a couple times during the season. The only downside is, not only does insurance come into play, but barriers as well, or whatever else is needed by their standards.

I guess its something to consider, rather than a jump and go, kind of thing.

Just my push for thought.

Martino, every day I drove by that when I delivered I wanted to do a gymkahna in that corner.

He’s right, noise shouldn’t be an issue, it’s a fairly commercial/light industrial type area, and the track and airport are right there… it would be awesome, it’s decent pavement, tons of room, and it has a nice slope up into the corner that could make for a really fun sweeper in a course.

there needs to be an afilliation between the pro’s to amatures, from what im reading there is a growing gap between the two. I am looking to compete as an amature and try to develope my skills and my goal is to compete in a pro-am event to guage my skills against the pro’s. If this gap is too big , then it will kill the drift scene very quickly.
With the economy the way it is and how it will be in the next yr or two, it will be extremely hard to get any kind of sponsorship to assist with this. I feel its in the best interest to involve the entry level drifters to be apart of this scene , after all we all started somewhere and had goals to be places with our skills. If the goal is too much to reach then less and less ppl with be interested in it and the sports will die, fans will not come out and everything will be for nothing.

I am willing to hepl this cause in anyway i possibly can, all i need is some direction for the organizers and i will do my best to help this scene be the best it can be

farmer

i have big plans this year to help the amatures out

with more tracks than just shannonville
