First of all, Happy Holidays to everyone! I personally celebrate Festivus.
Anyways, what’s every ones plan for next year? We’re starting to plan the season and we need to know what all you guys want to do.
Do you want an all out professional series? (cages, firesuits, the whole 9 yards)
Do you want an amateur series? (no cages req.)
Do you want more open drifting?
Do you want ‘Drifting 101’ to learn the basics before hitting the track?
Serious league for those who are up to par, amatuer events that allow openings to the pro league. A nice open spot for those learning to practice before hitting the tracks for the first time.
more open drifting, with some kind of better system so i dont have to worry about getting T-Boned because of all the people on the track and no distances being left.
People who just start out dont like to be pressured with someone behind them incase they spin out and end up being face to face with someone else…
Ill be drifting, and i aint that great so just a suggestion i have. S1DC was also planning something for drifting 101 (Stage 1 Drift School with hand picked people who have been in/doing this sport for years now) so PM me or add me to MSN and ill discuss our plans and maybe we can work something out.
P.S. I will purchase the same hat as you if needed
To have a pro event, we need a pool of at least 40 cars/drivers with FULLY preped cars which includes cage, fire suits, loads of wheels and tires, possibly a pit crew.
How many here can put up their hands and say that they have a car ready to have a pro series with tandem drifting? Setting up a car for Pro requires a lot more money than you think.
Most people drifting now have the basics: suspension, sr20/kat, lsd. On top of that, you will need to add: $1500 - $2000 for a cage, $1000+ for fire suit, $200+ for gloves, $200+ for shoes, $500+ for helmet. Then you have to factor in the cost of the events, the tires that you will go though, gas money…
If you have all that already, you can always goto DMCC. They’ve all been drifting for 2 years and they all have FULLY prepped cars with some decent skill and tandem experience. I know some of us have the skill to compete with them but overall, we (as in Ontario) have a long way to go. An Amateur series (in our opinion) is the best thing to do right now. This will help prepare the drivers for a pro series not only with the skill required to drive the car but also with a general layout of how a pro competition series will run throughout the day and the season.
wayne, maybe we can do a collaberation on this thing. I have i think 5 guys i got interested in teaching something like this and i would personally like to do this with people experienced in doing track days like yourselves.
If not, we will probably still go through with it but involves alot more planning on our end.
I would like to see alot more people out at these events and I would love to see people being more interested in this sport but doing it as they feel comfortable. I am personally sick of the grip guys talkin shit about our drift population down here and how they all “suck”.
If the interest is there i would love to go through with this plan so we can start building this motorsport up.
A pro series is way to much right now. There are very few people who can actually do tandem around here anyways. Others would be to afraid and focus on the guy they have around them rather than doing what they should. You want to go pro? Go to DMCC. We need more amateur days for sure.
The Kouki’s not getting a cage… I vote for ameture.
A good competitive situation would be awesome, but open lapping has always been my favorite, like the old DriftStar events at Shannonville! Those were the good old days!
The pro series will most likely need help from quite a fair share of sponsors. The bigger the amateur scene grows the better the chance unless you wanna be drifting for Bings.ca
