for those debating the ability to consider both evolution and the existence of god as valid, it might be instructive to know that even the catholic church does not claim that evolution is against its teachings…and i don’t believe it ever officially was against the theory since darwin’s time.
that said though, how many people believe there are aliens? because i would think that if you think that a god being is unbelievable than certainly you would feel the same about aliens for who there is about exactly as much hard evidence for their existence…
The existence of life on Earth and estimates of the size of the universe and its billions of planets suggests it had to happen somewhere else. There are billions of people on Earth, how many diseases or abnormalities happened to 1 person and never again?
Not to mention, why would something that created said universe give a shit if I have pre-marital sex, eat meat on Friday during lent, or wake up early on Sunday to go to church?
the universe is huge…but consider the trillions upon trillions of yes/no scenarios that had to play out to go from nothing but rocks to 6 billion human beings? not to mention the millions of other species that have developed… an awful lot had to go right for that to happen… the universe isn’t big enough to replicate it

you’d expect it to be a bit more crowded then wouldn’t you? also i think you are being a bit loose with the term infinite… no one knows that it is infinite… we can only observe so far and beyond that it could just end for all we know… there are equations that state that it could be ‘limitless’ but they are just equations, not observations of reality
Humans get very uncomfortable with things they can’t understand, thus the application of religion.
If people need to pretend some wacky shit exists to explain the world, I’m cool with it. But you can’t be naive to the facts represented supporting evolution.
but you also need to be able to admit that some really whacky shit has to happen at the beginning of evolution in order to allow for the rest of it to happen… the whole ape to human thing is seemingly simple enough, but going from a pool of lifeless ooze to something simple but as yet can reproduce or replicate in some way is kind of tough.
at least with the monkey to human you already start with something that is alive and fully functional and you are just incrementally changing it for millions of years…you have the benefit of time.
with the ooze you have to go from something that is “nothing” to “something” without the benefit of millions of years…it has to just HAPPEN at some point…and how that happens is pretty whacky shit to say the least

Without getting into debate, there’s a ton missing in your view. Biological evolution is very complex, it’s never as simple as ooze to monkeys to humans.
i never said it went from ooze to monkeys… i was saying that evolution is very easy to understand when you are going from apes to humans and that is where evolution seems very logical and easy to get a grasp of…
the problem for evolution is at its beginning. in order for darwinian evolution to take place you have to have a creature, protien, thing (for lack of a better word) that can participate in the darwinian process and at some point you have to go from something that is not a potential actor in the process to something that is an actor in the process… so by the very rules of the process at some point you magically go from ‘nothing’ to ‘something’… it isn’t possible to evolve into an actor in the darwinian process because to evolve into it, you would already have to be an actor in it…
so there it is…instead of millions of years to incrementally go from monkey to human…you have to instantaneously go from ooze to darwinian actor…i would say that is some whacky shit
After gazillions of years according to Darwin we must have magically jumped 2 chromozomes. It is an even bigger stretch than the official 9-11 story. lol If you believe either I have got some swamp land for you.

In any event, if there is a god, it’s a force that steers those yes/no situations in a given way to get a certain progression. Not a bearded guy in the sky watching you live your life.

It is hard to grasp your mind around something being infinite. But then again, the earth was flat once.
Based on a lot of the answers in here concerning religion; I can say that they do not understand who God is or what his word says. I could say the mention of God makes people very uncomfortable. I mean how pissed off do people at the mention of Jesus? Evolution is a nice theory and sure there is evidence for it however it is only a theory not rock solid truth. I would say it takes a lot of faith to bank your eternity on it. That being said there is plenty of evidence about the validity of the bible but that doesn’t mean it is true to everyone. The point is any “theory” takes faith to believe in it. I prefer to gather all the info and make my decision from there.
