You know what I’m talking about. You’re approaching a red light with multiple lanes of traffic, cars in each of them. You then try to deduce which lane will accelerate the fastest so you can be in that lane.
I’m starting to think I put far too much effort into this process. In my head are literally hundreds of profiling tests going on. Sometimes it gets really complicated with just a big truck in one lane but several cars driven by old ladies in the other.
Age of drivers. If all I see is hands on a steering wheel and a patch of white/blue hair, that is not the lane to be in.
Vehicle condition. Not so much is it sporty vs is slow. I’ll take a minvan over a civic in most cases for instance. No, here I’m more looking for dents and other misc damage. The more damage the more likely you are to be hauling ass so I’ll be in your lane.
Items in the car. Do you have stuffed animals on your parcel shelf that any normal driver would have sent flying within a 1 mile radius of their house? Yeah, I’m not getting in your lane.
I could go on like this for a while but it’s time to go home and I want to leave room for others.
every single time i drive lol
if they pass me and im speeding, and theyre speeding faster, i will always try to follow them/stay in their lane
i never follow old ladies at the stop light, one sight of poofy hair and its either a jewfro or an old person and they probably drive slow
if you’re behind a turbo diesel truck, get behind them because they usually drive like assholes and will speed enough for you to get into the other lane
How about those old people who can’t operate a gas pedal? They take off like a bat out of hell when the light turns green then slow back down to 30pmh.
Of course I do, but it’s at the subconscious level at this point. Occasionally a friend will quiz me on a traffic decision and I’ll rattle off a dozen factors pointing to why I made a decision.
Yep, all the time. I use most of the above mentioned techniques. Also - If I see cars slowing down in front of me, I try to keep an eye on who started braking first. Usually thats a good indicator of their age (old people brake like super whoa early), and I avoid that lane.
