Do you want the drinking age changed to 18?

and an m-16 isnt?

i would think putting an m-16 machine gun in the hands of an 18 year old is just as dangerous or deadly as putting a case of scotch and they keys to a corvette in front of them…either way people die but i supose its ok for the government to take your 18 year old son putem behind the wheel of a humvee and then let him get blown to shit, but not have a beer after a hard days work killing people in dirka dirkastan. i just think its fuckedup lol and i also fail to see how its ok to drive a car at 60 miles an hour… a mile a minute at 16(maybe now its even 17 or 18) they say your adult enough to take your life and the lives of others in your hands on a highway in a car but your apparently not adult enough to have a glass of wine at dinner or a beer with your pals, granted i know most 16 year olds are still in school but i think at 18 when everyone says your old enough to go to war and old enough to make a very important decission such as voting for the leaders of this nation and its local governments but you cant have a beer is just stupid. its the biggest oxymoron, the decission to choose a president or judge or even a town clerk is just as important as choosing to drink and drive or not to drink and drive.

just my opinion.

i do agree thats a great point, if something goes wrong in life point the finger at someone or sue them, dont take responsibilty

The comparison to an M-16 is absurd.

To echo what some people have said, here’s my $.02.

I had to take 2 advanced sociology classes (blech) in college and I spent much of it on this topic…

There has been a lot of research on this subject specifically by American researchers in other countries. The questions was why does the US have significantly more rampant alcoholics than other nations? Some of their conclusions were that in other countries, there either is no drinking age or it’s 18 and isnt enforced nearly as strictly as our 21yr is. They concluded that because the drinking age was younger, “kids” start drinking while still under the supervision of their parents which minimizes the likihood that they’ll drink to get completely wasted right from the start.

When I was 17-20 I was in Europe frequently and every time I went out, I never saw people getting completely hammered like they do here. People didnt go out to get drunk, they went out to have fun and have a few drinks.

In the US, kids arent supposed to drink, so they steal a bottle of Crystal Palace, pound it quick, and get fucked up on Friday night. Then they go to college where alcohol is plentiful and go nuts. In other countries, kids have half a glass of wine at dinner with their parents so there first experience with alcohol isnt jello shots in some sluts basement in highschool.

So in other words, yes it should be lowered to 18 and at the same time decriminalized in the public’s mind. It’ll never happen because of anti-drunk driving groups and their influence in Congress (this will happen at the federal level, not state).

you can have your opinion, im not here to say what is right or wrong, just what i know… but an 18yr old with an M-16A2 service rifle vs an 18year old drunk with keys to a vette… the difference is the military 18year olds are trained to do those tasks, you arent trained to drink and drive. and if youve been around any of that youd understand why “an afterwork beer” would be a bad idea, work doesnt end at 5 or whatever shift your on, youre on duty 24/7 regardless of shift. there is a zero tolerance for underage drinking in the military as well, not because your a bad kid and you shouldnt drink, but because the people long before your time that ruined it for you. theres alot that you dont see from the civilian side of things when dealing with the military. but its all politics, and i hate politics.

now about the 16-17year old and driving, theyve changed that system around as well. you can no longer go get your permit, take your 5 hour and then a week after turning 16 take your road test and get licensed, i think its a year or something you must wait now, with different requirements on passengers and such.

I’ve been to plenty of bars and I’m only going to see more now that I promote for a few high end mostly 21+ night clubs, and guess what…it’s the same :ponder and alot of 16 year olds shouldnt be driving i agree with that.

21, im already there hhahahahaha

lol, +1

For a lot of the reasons in this thread. Yea it sucks for those mature 18-20 year olds. But I agree with the 21 age limit. Especially now that I am 21 :giggedy.

kids need to learn how to respect alcohol at a younger age

yea exactly on my level of thinking there, thats what I wanted to say but didnt

what you guys seem to be missing here is the fact that most of the people at the bars you drink at are underage with fake IDs and you dont even know it

:nod basically from what I’ve seen (you guys on shift arent good examples but hey neither am I) if people go to a bar to drink they get drunk, you guys saw me every time I was at sutters with you guys and I ‘could’ drink I did, but I retain that I am atleast mature to make sure I have a designated driver beforehand. I will admit that sadly alot of kids dont take this precaution. I’d say if they lower the age they step up drunk driving enforcement alot. but thats just me.

idk alot of poeple hold what they drink and dont act like a fuckin moron because its not socialably acceptable to run around drunk acting like your 13 etc etc jumpin around and shit and fallin and breakin shit, so its not rare to see anyone who is drunk to be chill etc its common shit

ok this thread and me are bored

im 24 now, back when i was 17-18 i would have done anything the have the drinking age lowered to 18, i mean, i drank ALOT more before i turned 21 and got it out of my system. For my 21st birthday i went to work, and i came home and drank A beer with my father and went to sleep so i could go to work the next morning. I really dont care if they change it, b.c everyone knows if kids want to drink they are gonna find a way, i would just hate to see “18” turn into the new “15”

its about time they changed the rules at dmv… as far as the m-16 thing goes it was a general blanket statement oveously you have training to use it… no one trains you to drink and drive lol… but my point was just that one is just as dangerous as the other that either way its a deadly combo but in diffrent aspects. i hate politics to, my wifes uncle is a general so not that he tells us anything but he does tell us “you have no idea” lol and hes right we dont and id much rather keep it that way lol. i did know they have zero tolerance for underage drinking because many of my school mates went into the millitary and a good friend of mine is still in the army and one of the first things they bitched about was not being able to drink because they were 19 or 20 but they understood.

Exactly. Kids 18 get it from 21yr olds. Now kids 13-15 are going to get it from 18yr olds. Then what…lower it again and say it’ll keep the 15yr olds from sneaking around and doing it illegally? :nuts

Oh no i’m drinking right now. :ohnoes

21 don’t mean shitttttttttttt

+1 to that bro…

damn man. you know what your talking about. kudos.

Do you promote around here because I can assure you there are no high end 21 + clubs around here pal.

where have you been dude I moved to florida. clubs+albany= :crackup I promote for a few clubs in miami, I was drunk in the dj booth last night and left a message for steve and nicole ;D gettin my $$ soon and as soon as I have enough I’m gonna buy a bottle at a club and get super vip status. right now I just get in for free get a comp, get some drink (depending on club) and get paid $5 a head. I can chill in the vip room at some of the lower end clubs like allure also, and I can chill in and dj booth I want. If you buy a bottle at a club (think grey goose is abour 300) you get a special vip treatment, like chasers all night, scantily clad women and you get your own table, its a big deal and I think it would be sweet to have that treatment. This friday I’m gonna be working at Park West (owned by space, but not quite as good) and I’ll be hanging in the d.j booth taking lots of pics since my friend is spinning (he’s the one who got me into this) lots and lots of fun miami clubs are awsome! :banana
