Dodge Durango new body Style

So with the family getting bigger the Acura TL isnt cutting it anymore. I can’t bring myself to drive a mini van so I am looking at the new body style Durangos 2011+. Anyone have any experience or own one that can chime in or give any other ideas of something 7 passenger. i have looked at the Ford Flex also

I like the looks…not sure on the reliability or issues, but dodge is dodge and my 2014 Ram is a testament to looks good and works, but corners were cut when you look really close.

I might suggest looking in to an Enclave/Acadia/Traverse with the flip out 3rd row.

My personal suggestion is to go full on Escalade/Denali XL

We’ve been really happy with our CX-9. Rides and drives like a somewhat sporty car but still carries 7 passengers. Mazda did a great job tuning it to drive a lot better than any of the other 7 passenger options out there.

Only downside I’ve found is they have some issues with the transfer cases on the AWD models. Ford designed that part and never incorporated a drain plug, claiming the fluid was “lifetime”. After about 30k miles the OEM fluid goes bad and shortly after the transfer cases go with it. Easy enough to buy a fluid pump and suck the fluid out the fill hole though and for the people making it a regular service item every 20k miles or so the problem seems solved. Another option is drilling and tapping the case to add a drain plug, but I wouldn’t go that route while under powertrain warranty.

I was thinking about getting one, Mercedes GL platform, 50/50 weight distribution, with Dodge electronics.

My conclusion is 2014+ with the 8 speed, if anything. V6, V8, or rough riding RT is a matter of personal needs and preference.

Reasonably a Sienna is a much better choice for my needs. Economically no car payment is the smartest. I’m going to sit on the idea for a few years and see how reliability is.

I rented a 2016 durango with the v6 in and thing is really nice. car and driver recommends it but trying to get some more opinions

im surprised you haven’t looked at a Honda Pilot yet

I just bought a 2013 Ford Explorer sport. Was thinking of the Durango when I was looking but it would have to be the 8 speed. In the end, the Ford won. Love the truck. I’d recommend that as it seats 7 easily

Best advice in this thread.

The dodge V6 is pretty much a copy of the GM v6… i think some parts might even fit both they are such a close copy lol

I like my Ram 2500… so that doesn’t really help at all haha.

My mom has a 2015 Durango and she likes it. Too early to talk about reliability. Hers is the Citadel trim with the 5.7L. Nice truck if you need something that big. When she was visiting me it barely fit in my garage.

We use Tahoes in Niagara County and I know TTPD just started switching over to Explorers and Tahoes, the only agencies that I’ve seen use Durangos are Federal.

Obviously contracts play a huge role but as far as reliability and what not it says a lot about those two options over the Dodge.

One of my customers bought a 2016 Toyota Highlander and returned it with 300 miles on it and got a New Honda Pilot. If that means anything.

Uh-oh, you’ve already drunk too much of the GMPT Kool-Aid. :X

This is what I think of when I see Range Rovers.

I think you’re in the wrong thread.

I think of the wide availability of credit, chilled red wine, and of course wedge haircuts.

Okay, back to Dodge Durangos. I think of tron, Dodge Caravan taillights, and of course Edward Herman. Maybe you should get a Durango.

probably lol i’ve compared the dodge v6 side by side to ours…

I was told they copied gm… i don’t really know who copied who or really care haha

lol @Blue_Eyed_Devil

As for the Durango, make sure your wife reads this before driving it: http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/car-technology/news/a28121/nhtsa-investigates-jeep-dodge-chrysler-shifters/

^^^ Actually that might not apply to the Durango, I thought they had the same shifter as the Cherokee.

I don’t see how it is big, out of the 23 Best SUVs with 3 Rows: http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/rankings/Affordable-SUVs-with-3-Rows/

It’s length at 201" ranks it 12th (tie), 2.72" above the average.
It’s width at 76" ranks it 6ths (5 way tie), 1" below the average.
It’s total footprint of 15,276 sq.in. is below the average of 15,289.
On average it is a small three row SUV.

Of those listed it is the smallest three row SUV with a towing capacity above 6,000 lbs. If you trend-line the data the Durango is an outlier for footprint area vs max towing capacity.

Correct, this is the 2014+ shifter:

considering some of these same options. We have a jeep GC for hauling 2 kids under 2, but it is also our main work vehicle so there are a lot scheduling conflicts.

a 3 row GC would be ideal, but the Durango is the closest you’ll get to that right now. If I’m going to get a third row though I’d probabaly go with buckets in the 2nd row to avoid having to take out car seats every time people sit in back.

right now I’m leaning explorer with v6 eco boost or like a 1960’s Impala wagon.
