Well that’s the situation in my buddy’s pre-1994 Sentra.
He replaced the starter, yet when he has to start his car, it won’t start up
right away. He has to sit there cranking a few times.
And after it starts up, it kind of hesitates a bit before it starts to idle
normal. What could it be? Fuel? Electrical? Mechanical?
What can I suggest he get checked out? I can’t look at his car because
he’s in Peterborough and isn’t very mechanically inclined (and thus most
likely to get ripped off by a mechanic - it’s already happened once).
It sounds like fuel starvation to me, as if the fuel pump is having trouble starting up or something. Could also be an ignition component amongst a ton of other things. Ya never know with friggin’ Nissans…
Look at the car’s history, what’s been changed recently? Any other symptoms etc? Anything look fishy under the hood?
Yeah I’d tend to agree that’s it sounds fuel related.
Check that the fuel filter is not clogged, that the fuel pump is getting power and turns on when you turn the key.
Also have him check his plugs b/c if one or more a fouled, they may not be igniting the gas going in. So in a sense the car floods untill the plug finally fires and burns the gas.
That may even explain the rough start before idiling normally.
